I was guessing that I think Grunge Music and Cultures can be Suitable to Aspies.

I am a Grunge, Born in 1995, I am a Aspie, I wear Grunge Clothes (Graphic T-Shirt, Flannel Shirt, Another Flannel Shirt Tied to the waist, Ripped Jeans, Converse, and Mid-Length Hair (6")).

I listened to Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, also Post-Grunge Music, such as, Seether, Foo Fighters, The Vines, and Alanis Morissette.

I learned how to Scream Like Nirvana (Kurt Cobain). But My Pitch is 20% different.

Well Grunge Lyrics are typically angst-filled, often addressing themes such as social alienation, apathy, confinement, and a desire for freedom. Which those Subjects are suitable for Aspies who are Musicians and wanted to write Lyrics.

Well I suffered Harsh Discipline throughout my life, and I felt that I became upset and Mad and also Rebelled against my Parents.

But Nirvana helps my life, but Kurt Cobain Suffered a bad life, but the differences are, He took Drugs and Committed Suicide, While I don't take drugs, but have Severe Anxiety, and Panic Disorder. Also along with Mild Paranoia. As I got upset, sometimes I write Angst filled Lyrics in a Nirvana Style Lyrics.

Also Grunge doesn't use shampoo in their hair (Which I am lazy to use the shower in the Summertime, except going to school or Special Occasions. Also My Room is a Mess, also Grunges uses a Messy Abandoned Room to Play Music and also Grunges are Dirty (Which I am).

I am always a mess, but I take Showers once a week, and that's it and also I clean my bedroom every 5 months.

Do you think Grunge Music are Suitable for Aspies?

Pastel grunge FTW!

It allows me to dress like a slob, but with glitter and rainbows and colors only a six year old would choose.

I used to be absolutely obsessed with Nirvana, although I grew bored of them after listening to all of their songs about a bajillion times. :P I also idolized Kurt Cobain for a long time, and while I now understand that that's sort of insulting to his legacy, I still look up to him as being one of the most revolutionary musicians of all time, not to mention the fact that he was simply a really cool and intelligent person whom I can identify with.

Anyway, I think that the grunge aesthetic as a whole fits aspies really well. Grunge fashion is more concerned with comfort and self-expression than looking stylish or orderly, and similarly the music is often "rough" and unconventional-sounding, while featuring introspective lyrics that deal with tough emotional issues including angst, alienation, addiction, depression, and the struggles one can have with "fitting in" or "growing up".

Way back in 1982 this guy on my dorm floor dressed grunge before the word existed. His dad was a Economics professor at the university, but he still lived in the dorm. He had a DJ business for college parties like frats. He was the person that taught me you play music that women like to dance to, not the music you like, if you want to have a good party.

Later on when I was in grad school I went into a new record store in town turns out he was the owner.

He had a younger brother that opened an ice cream shop inside another restaurant, then later moved into another store. Part of it might have been the father helping them, don't know.

They impressed me. They might have been Aspies, no idea.

Don't forget that Courtney Love was diagnosed as high-functioning autistic when she was younger.

Here's a song about depression and stomach problems. I'm sure many aspies can relate. I used to listen to it all the time back when I was 14, and it's still one of my favorite Nirvana songs.

"Sit and drink pennyroyal tea / distill this life that's inside of me / sit and drink pennyroyal tea / I'm anemic royalty"

I've been having stomach problems over the last few years, though I didn't experience them as much when I was younger. I think you're right in that it has something to do with anxiety, though I will note that anxiety is a common co-morbid for aspies, thus the connection. As well, there is a widespread theory that ASD may have something to do with an abnormal gut flora, which causes an imbalance of certain neurotransmitters.

If I remember correctly, Kurt Cobain's stomach problems had something to do with an undiagnosed pinched nerve, which is what lead him to start abusing heroin. It's pretty sad that something so simple could cause someone enough pain to drive them to abuse drugs.

Anyway, the one line in the song that actually stuck out to me the most, when I was 14 was "I'm so tired I can't sleep". I've had nights where I've literally felt like that.

Born in 90' and I'm living the grunge lifestyle and listening to the music too, I think its great and I think I fit in well. The main reason I prefer grunge to other similar genres is the relatable lyrics and the ease of word comprehension.

I sort of grew up in the grunge era, maybe a year or two too young to fully appreciate it, but now I kind idealise the mid nineties, music, books, films, my identity is very much linked to it. Kind of like I'm trying to convince myself I was part of something even though I didn't belong at the time.

I was kind of young too however I remember raiding my parents CD collection looking for Soundgarden as a 6 or 7 year old, towards the end of grunge yes however that's proof that I appreciated it while it was still going. I just wish that I could have been old enough to see some of those bands while people like Cobain and Staley were still alive and kicking'.
