Do you mean you can't physically form the words (like with stuttering or apraxia), or you can't put it into words (like with a language disorder)? Or do you know exactly what you want to say, the words are in your head and there is no motoric problem, but you can't seem to say it anyway? I get that when I am anxious or overwhelmed.

Oh my gosh yes this happens to me all the time and I haven't been able to describe what it is. It usually happens when I'm trying to initiate a conversation or talk while I'm in a group of people talking or when trying to say something remotely emotional such as I love you. Glad to see someone else has this problem.

I get stutters when I'm stressed.

Yeah I have had that, sometimes its due to not being able to figure out how to word something so people will understand my meaning. Though other times I've had times when there is a specific word I want to use but don't because somewhere in my mind it somehow seems embarrasing, I mean its happened with just random words but its like I am too embarrassed to say it...that has diminished though can't really remember the last time I had that issue. Then other times its hard to arrange my thoughts to think of anything at all to say.

I can be great with jokes (perhaps contingent on coffee) but I feel the precise same about nearly any other dialogue. If I think about a statement & come up empty, that's it, the block is permanent...

Both are problems for me.

Sometimes I will go to fast and then stutter a little bit, and then the words will come out slightly different than how I wanted to say them.

What happens to me is when I am talking about something and I know what it is but I can't remember the word it is called. This happens to me all the time and I try to rapidly think of a substitute word. Sometimes that works and sometimes it comes across a rather bizarre if I choose something that doesn't fit well. Hours or days later I remember the word. Or I forget someone's name. Now we all do this but what about someone you see and interact with EVERY day like at work. I have this too and usually cover up using something like hey or dude or something generic. I can't for the life of me remember the name. Other times I can't even form a sentence to say what I am thinking. I think mainly in images and it is like I cannot connect the images to a name or thing. Just tonight was eating and wanted cottage cheese. I finally pointed and grunted and mom figured it out. It wasn't until an hour later I could remember wth it is called. 8O

You have to get rid of the emotion first. Not that easy if the whole situations is quite intimidating.

I too have this issue. It comes and goes with stress. Some tricks I have used include the singing to talk method, basic sign, and flash cards... yes, I actually used flash cards to order my daily coffee while heading to work for a while, it was a simple choice between light roast, and dark roast. I had a limited time to get to work from the train station and it spread things up a lot!

Yes, it happens to me sometimes and I get self conscious and embarrassed. Sometimes people finish my sentence for me.

Do we seriously need talking tutorials around here?

I thought non-verbal communication was the troublesome topic. Don't tell me we're failing on the straight-forward talking front now too.

Wow, that was kinda harsh... Seemed like an honest question to a common issue to me. It must be nice to be perfect. Just saying.

Fallacy : "Perfection", as it is perceived, is not a prerequisite for having a critical opinion.
"Just saying."
