And it is true that they are trying the "divide and conquer" tactic. Maybe they should try to focus on how politicians have been raiding the fund instead of stygmatizing and dehumanizing current recipients.

Therein lies the problem. The majority of the people who would be affected by this don't vote. I know people who are on Social Security and people on SSDI who have never voted in their life. People who know less about politics or government than a house mouse knows about solving algebraic equations.

we have met the enemy, and he is us. [or at least those of us who won't vote in their own best interest] what I would do on the GOP's tombstone would not pass for flowers.

that reminds me of a reporter telling adlai Stevenson that he had the votes of thinking people everywhere, to which adlai retorted, "but I need a majority."

Add my wife and I to the list of voters who will hopefully throw out those heartless scumbags.

You can, obviously, blame the GOP for more election posturing that isn't actually going to solve any problems or help anybody.

You can, of course, level the same charge at the DNC. Is it really going to help?? Is expanding SSDI going to change the fact that the government treats the Social Security trust fund as a piggy bank??

Then there's the fact that there are legitimate cases of fraud. The kid I knew in college with ADHD, who could indeed work but simply did not wish to exercise the impulse control to show up during a Star Trek marathon or make the most minimal effort to put some kind of checkrein on his mouth. The girl I worked with who would openly tell you that she wished she "had something" so she could watch TV and smoke pot all day instead of showing up to work (all the while palming $20s out of the cash register and trying to blame it on me).

The lawyer, and all the doctors he had running scared, who demanded that people with things like ADHD or Asperger's be steered toward SSDI (rather than, say, job training) just so he could make money pushing their appeals through the court of the judge he was in cozy with (and paying kickbacks to).

ALL of these things contribute, honestly about equally, to the problem of SSDI being unavailable to the people who actually do need it.

It's all sound-byte posturing that is going to accomplish nothing more than dividing and conquering while the scam at the top goes merrily on. I am, frankly, disgusted.

^Frauds only hurt people who actually need Disability....also personal opinion but being on disability is not the same thing as watching t.v and smoking pot all day, that actually seems like it would be really boring I don't see why anyone would want to spend their days that way....unless its really nasty weather and they are stuck inside for a day or something.

it seems to me that all the GOP and its supporters are doing, is inexorably going to lead back to the gas chambers.

As the article in the OP says, most people on disability are already nearing retirement age, so they'd be more likely to vote.

so they will redouble their efforts at fighting "voter fraud" [IOW blocking anybody who is not one of the GOP having the temerity to vote].

IMHO it will no longer exist as a single entity but a bunch of warring city/states. stick a fork in it, we're [as a nation] done, we're just running on fumes now.
