Hello, my name is Joshua Menard, I have mild-level Asperger's. I've heard there are not many scholarships with Asperger's in general; I've searched the web and could barely find any. Can someone please help me? I'm 19 and starting college this year.

To be honest, you won't find many.

Scholarships are based on merit, and few are reserved for those with "disabilities" in general. Some might even be limited to specific disabilities other than AS/Autism.

You're better served focusing on merit-based scholarships. Your AS/Autism might be an angle to argue that you deserve the scholarship because you "overcame" adversity, but I don't think it will be a qualifier in and of itself.

I would go for merit-based as well. Your university may also have some scholarships. If you feel you will need it, get in touch with disability services early. Good luck!

I would go for merit-based too, that is. If you got good grades in school. Also, if the school environment doesn't trouble you. I would just keep you AS diagnosis hidden since telling anybody about is of no benefit to you anyways.

I'll bookmark this and let you know if I find any. I'm heading back to college and was hoping I might be able to get something like that.

Also, I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea that you shouldn't tell anyone about your AS. If there are people with mild enough cases that they don't need accommodations in school, they are very lucky. For the rest of us, accommodations are vital and might even be the only way to survive any sort of school. I actually picked the school I want to go to because of its excellent disability services.

Josh, do you have an academic area in which you excel? You can look for scholarships that way, too.
