I had worked 3.5 years at Home Depot as a cashier, and there was a change in management, which resulted in me being written up for a monotone voice, lack of proper eye contact, etc. I had no issues until this new manager, I felt I was about to get fired, so I quit first. There were constant issues.
I attended a local work readiness program, they teach Basic Office Skills, Customer Service, Shop, Food Services, for 27 weeks. 18 weeks in classroom, of Personal Development classes and Job Development, Academics (math, English). The last 9 weeks is a volunteer job placement.
I had sooooooo much anxiety and stress about going on the job placement... I started this program in January, and I was having some issues in February. I went to Cuba for two weeks in April and didn't feel like writing penpal letters, going to horse riding lessons--my normal activities. May 8 I was diagnosed with depression and started taking Effexor.
June 8 I started my job placement, as a cashier at a busy grocery store... I liked it more than I thought. They even gave me a cake on my birthday. When my placement was done, they offered me a job. I haven't started working yet for money, just went in today for my background check but hope to start officially working soon.
I was also voted to do the valedictorian speech at our graduation, which was Friday!
Congratulations!
You have done some amazing work in such a short time.

You should have taken it up with H.R.
With AS, what he was citing you for was a non-issue and discrimination.
At the time, I knew it was 'wrong', one of my managers chewed me out for 'coming in to work drunk' etc (I have a neuromuscular disorder, which sometimes makes me slur my speech among other things, I didn't even drink at the time, I was just a teenager).
The extra stress was not pleasant, and I quit soon after. I should, by right, have complained to HR through one of the two managers I was closer to, but, the thought of the extra stress of that (plus the time it would take from my already packed schedule of working multiple jobs and going to school), I just couldn't.
I do urge people to do what's right, which hopefully educates people so they don't make the same mistakes again with employees that follow me, but, I can totally understand when people don't have the energy to want to hassle with it.
Best of luck, and great accomplishments to the OP.

I did but nothing was done... well, sort of... Other people complained because he was basically firing everyone with disabilities. The day after I quit, he was "sent" to another store...
I'm not in the schedule yet for my new job, but I was called in yesterday for 4 hours, so I went and while I was there, someone went home sick and I ended up staying 6.5 hours total.
