Writing a book on People with Dosabilities
Hi
I would like to introduce myself as Paul . I am 17 years old and am currently finishing my last year of high schooling. I live in Australia and go to the school Mannum Community College which is located about 1 hour away from Adelaide in the state of South Australia.
As part of my year 12 studies, I am going to be completing a book on people living with disabilities and one of the disabilities I am covering is Asperger's along with other disabilities such as Muscular Dystrophy, Autism, Spina Bifida and acquired Brain Injury
I am writing a book on people with disabilities because I am very passionate about people living with disabilities as I have one myself, Cerebral Palsy, a disability which affects my muscles and the way they function both in the upper and lower parts of the right hand side of my body. I want to raise the awareness of people with disabilities because I believe that there are a lot of people with disabilities who have some amazing talents but unfortunately a lot of these people are too scared or afraid to show there talents because they are afraid of what other people may think of them and this is something I want to change.
I know whats it is like to live with a disability and know what it feels like because when I walk, I walk with a limp and I sometimes get people staring at me because of the way I walk. I don't know about you guys but this is something I certainly want to change as I believe in people with disabilities.
I also believe that when people live with a disability, the general public don't always accept people with a disability for who they really are and that is something I want to change also
I am currently in the researching stage of writing my book on people with disabilities and was wondering if any of you parents or anyone else for that matter would like to have some input into the book by supplying any stories on their children or other information, ideas or something relevant to this project of writing a book on people with disabilities. I have come to this forum because I would like some stories on Asperger's
I am writing this book as part of a the school subject, Community Studies which is a school based subject. I am planning to have this book done by the middle of this year ready for publication by about July.
I thankyou for reading this post and I look forward to hearing from you all
If you like you can also send me an email at [email protected]
Thanks Again

He lacks the natural gifts of AS, and runs on NTstinct. With but a simgle channel, low cps processor, narrow bandwidth, it is normal in his world to try to do more by repeteing the last behavior, believeing that the same cause and effect will produce a differant outcome.
Then there is the NT Pride Movement, someone said they picketed my house for a week, I did not notice, I do not go out, but it scared the neighbors, and that is my job. They can be dealt with, it just takes some extra effort.
Pauly, you did read the terms of service TOS, which clearly stated that duplicate messages waste bandwidth, are called SPAM, and are forbidden because they are also annoying. It is a member's responsability to delete accidental duplicate posts. Rules here are not like other places, they have a purpose, meaning, and are the group Charter.
Unlike the world in which you live, where when people do not follow the rules, more rules are made, and there are thousands of choices of right, wrong, and what you can get away with, and no enforcement until rule violation becomes excessive, and calls for action, by the group, with more rules, here it is different.
Here the rules are absolute. Created by Alex the Wise, for the good of all. It forms an understandable structure in which we can function, and it is not the rules, but our common agreement, to abide by the TOS, of Alex the Wise, that makes it possible for us to interact within bounds.
I would not demand that you understand us, but on the top of every page it says, READ THIS BEFORE POSTING. It was also explained when you signed up, and to become a member, you agreed to it.
This brings up two problems, one you show disrespect for everyone by violating the rules, this does cause bad feelings, you are placing yourself above our world, such things do not apply to you. I know you read the rules, you had to to get this far, you agreed, for that is also required. Now you chose another path?
The second is, here you have no rights, there is no long and slow process of trial by your peers, putting the burden of your behavior upon the community at large. This is a Benelovent Dictatorship, those who break the rules vanish.
Reading has not worked, giving your word has not worked, everything is here for you to view, but you take a forbidden path from the beginning. You show a lack of respect for the other members, our community of rules, our Law Giver Alex the Wise, who liberated us from lives lost in the shuffle of the world, who gave us a place, at great personal effort, shelter where there was none, friends and tribe, which we have never known, our only home and comfort.
Respect for the right to happiness in others comes from respecting yourself. You admit to not being one of us, and following us to our place of shelter, bring a lack of self respect with you. You are not the only NT here. there are many and welcome, they are a caring and honest people, trying to learn to understand, and they all know they are in the house of another, where the rules are somewhat differant, that is why they came, to learn of the world in which loved ones live, a world they cannot see.
You ignore the rules, and worse, your own agreement to them, you bring a world we have rejected with you, and enter the Kingdom of Alex The Great without love and respect. It is never too late to come to terms with yourself, everything is within, it is not the world or us, only you.
The last thing we need is to chase him away when he is a person who wants to learn more about us and spread the word about who we really are. Thanks a lot, guys...
I would like to apologize on behalf of the WP community and these nutheads ^^^ for the less than warm welcome. I would like to give a friendly reminder, though, that double posting in multiple boards is discouraged, whether the subject matter is important or not. We have a no-tolerance policy for spammers.

Calling me a 'nuthead'? I'm not sure I like that.

I don't think Roxas was applying that statement to you, Tequila.
However I do feel that it was a bit harsh to just immediately assume things about pauly. I believe just stating that AS is not a disability, merely something which has society induce it, would be a bit more appropriate.

I feel that Asperger's Syndrome should be counted as a disability that can be managed or mitigated with some effort. However, what I do not like is people assuming that it's a disease that must be eradicated or that I have something 'wrong' with me.

Totally agreed, and a viewpoint I want to make TOTALLY clear in my story.

Tis true. I apologise for my outburst, but like i said, if he really wants to learn about us, then let's not chase him away.

Yeh, people, sure he broke the rules but we can still be tolerant. Hey, wanting to learn about us? How often will that happen?

keyblade, with all due respect, did you actually read the whole thread? Because your post is on a plane completely different from the subject. He doesn't know about AS, he wants to learn, instead of assuming he's a hopeless case (sorry pauly), why don't we give him a spin in the right direction? That would be a lot less disrespectful. After all, when you assume, you make an ass out of u and me. Observe:
ASSUME = ASS + U + ME
I personally would like to avoid having one more bigoted person who hates us because he/she doesn't understand us. I've had enough of those in my life already.
