I'm currently on at least my eighth cup of coffee since waking up about 6 hours ago. I drink it fairly strong, and from a largish mug.

I've been a pretty serious consumer of the stuff for about 30 years, probably averaging 6-10 cups per day.

Is anyone here in the same sort of category, and have you experienced any ill-effects?


NB I'm referring to caffeinated coffee.

I am a coffee addict, recently I've noticed I get heart palpitations if I have too many cups in succession.
I find instant coffee tasteless so usually grind my own or use Tassimo pods if I am flush.

I also drink quite a lot of coffee. I've only noticed some ill-effects such as palpitations occasionally, but usually when coffee consumption is combined with increased smoking and no sleep. I am pretty young though.

I used to drink about two liters. I'm down to 0.4-0.5 liters today. Caffeine is healthy, but you won't get any health benefits from exaggerating the dosage. On the contrary, drinking too much coffee can mess with your testosterone levels.

I think caffeine sensitivity differs significantly from person to person. If your body can tolerate such high levels of caffeine in your system, then your body must be quite immune to it. I don't know how much of coffee/caffeine will start having an effect on your body if your body is so resistant to it. With age it might change. So if you notice anything, you might want to be careful. I have never heard of any damage to health caused by caffeine.

I have heard about people having a heart attack from consuming too much caffeine (not necessarily from coffee) within a short period of time. Even a cup or two of coffee can cause heart palpitation to some people.

I myself have never in my life felt the effect of caffeine as far as I know. I drink as much as I like whenever I like. It never affects my sleep or heart or anything else. I was like that even when I had coffee for the first time in my life. So it must be genetic.

Thanks to the above posters for your interest and contributions.

I've been having a heart-rhythm issue since 1991, but I didn't connect it potentially with coffee consumption until many years later. I've had this checked out more than once, and been assured that it's harmless.

I drink large amounts of coffee because:

1. I like the taste of it.
2. I probably have some sort of psychological addiction to it.
3. I have seen scientific studies, seemingly pretty serious ones, that suggest coffee protects the liver from alcohol-induced damage. These studies are very little known, but there may be political reasons for that. I have been a fairly heavy consumer of alcohol over the past decade and a half, for reasons which may or may not be related to Autistic Spectrum issues.

I probably drink about 3-4 cups of coffee a day, and I have for about 2-3 years now.

I haven't had any ill effects, just make sure you're drinking a lot of water too in order to avoid dehydration.

I have a strong chemical dependence on caffeine (both mental and physical) but 3-4 cups a day is my max (3 usually). your intake sounds dangerously excessive. I heard there are still numerous benefits at 5 cups a day, but 6-10 sounds very dangerous.

maybe try limiting it slowly, if you don't have adverse physical side-effects?

At most I'll drink up to three or four cups of coffee a day, though I consume caffeine in a lot of other ways too, like through colas, energy drinks, and even straight-up caffeine pills. I'm a bit of a caffeine junkie, and while it's not at all good for my anxiety, I find it helps with my depression somewhat, and it can sometimes give me the pick-me-up I need to get s**t done. Ironically, the ritual of making a cup of coffee and slowly sipping it can actually be pretty relaxing for me, despite the fact that the coffee itself is a stimulant.

Caffeine and energy drinks in particular actually used to be a special interest of mine, and it was really cool back when they were new and new varieties were coming out all the time. Then Health Canada started putting regulations on them and made them a lot less interesting. I miss the days where a 16oz can of NOS had 250mg of caffeine.

After around 8 or more cups I will start getting ill-effects, like dizziness, feelings of panic and heart palpitations. While so much coffee wasn't the norm, I have seriously cut back, and now drink about 3-5 cups a day.

I love coffee, but it's like everything else, too much of anything can't be good for you long term.
