ok, so i pretty much went to the doctors and he gave me citalopram for my depression, and thinks i may have ADHD and wanted to find a good book for himself so he can tell me if i have AS or not, which i have to w8 3 weeks now but anyway.
since taking it, the first few days i had severe headaches, and my thought pattern changed significantly, it kinda blocked out alot of negative thoughts like it was changing my thinking pattern/brain pattern orsomething, :S this is what its meant to do i guess:Pbut it also kinda made me feel a bit dumb, cos where id usualy analys situations where iwas outside etc and think about things alot before i do them, i wouldnt do as much, but now im also having dreams which are very realistic, and i remember that exactly, and they are of everyday life, and ive had ALOT of dejavu with them.. dreaming of an old friend calling me then the next day he came on msn for first time in 2-3 months weeks etc and msged me, and just general activies etc. has anyone else experienced similar things with anti depressants? especially to the Aspies, about it changing your whole thought pattern etc

Yes starting /stopping /adjusting a dose of drugs that effect your mind will make your
dreams more vivid. But that want last long. The action of anti-depressants is not fully
understood. Secondary reactions that take about a month produce the anti-depressant
effects. So its impossible to fully judge its effectiveness till you wait that long.

The drugs are blocking thoughts? Yikes, you know some people say pot does that but I've never had 'thoughts' change from negative to positive (or vice versa) except for when I took up meditation principles. Now, my thoughts are more positive and less negative, even with "tax" season, right now, and being in the financial industry, I've kept my cool!

Cognitive therapy will help you change your thoughts but it does it so once you leave, you keep doing it. The problem I find with medications is that it does not teach you 'how to think' but does it 'for you,' from the sounds of it. In other words, you stop taking them, depression comes back. IS this what anti-depressants really do? Change your thinking patterns? I dont like the idea, if it does, that a chemical is preventing thoughts and not 'myself.' Many believe it can be learned. 8)

(especially with side effects, such as feeling 'dumb' which I do not experience with cognitive thinking)

Haven't been on that particular one, but I know that your description is spot on for many SSRIs, like Zoloft.

Hang in there and wait to see what how things smooth out once you're body has adjusted. Agreed also that counseling along with the meds
is the best plan.

Not really. When you feel very depressed you tend to have constant negative thoughts. When your not depressed you do not have constant negative thoughts.

I may have misread this, but your doctor wants to get himself a book so that he can see if you have Aspergers??? If this is the case and he needs to read a book, would he not be better referring you to someone more knowledgable, lol?

This is down the line of 'cognitive therapy' then, is it not? It teaches you to stop resorting to negative thinking and improve it to 'positive.'

Its something I have worked on for the past year and have had tremendous success/results (I tie it in with Meditation which has been around way longer then the theory behind 'cognitive thinking'). Is this drug essentially doing what congitive therapy can do? I'm just trying to understand what 'mentally' goes on while you're on anti-depressents.

Not sure as I have never tried CBT. Most expert say a combination of meds and CBT is the best treatment. Myself the meds remove the negative thoughts.

My life sucks, but no drugs for me. I will keep my brain factory stock. I have not heard of a pill that will grant me emotional fluency anyway, and do not want any of my thoughts blocked.
