not necessarily because of AS but can be.

I really like "sometimes I can hear my bones straining under the weight of all the lives I'm not living." from Jonathan Safran Foer's Extremely Close and Incredibly loud (think the kid in this book has AS not sure if it is stated).

The context of the line man who shut down after his experience of WW2 and the holocaust, his reaction upon seeing an attractive women (I think, can't remember for sure). I just find the line really powerful expression of being disconnected, yearning to be different but unable to overcome himself.
