Tomorrow I start my first day of college, and I'm very worried. I had a very rough time in high school. I'm going on financial aid, and if my grades slip, I'll lose my aid. I'm not good with people my age, (my friends tend to be in their thirties), and I'm Worried that my inability to make friends in high school will follow me into college.

My anxieties let up a bit when I graduated high school, now it looks as though they might come back full force.

I think you'll do all right.

My advice is to follow the syllabi closely at first--then, when you get the hang of it, you could become more flexible. Don't miss classes.

This is what I did. I was overwhelmed at first--being a 36-year-old first-time freshman.

But I made it--because I followed the syllabi closely.

I have aspergers and this is my second year in college,

When you get to college, it's much more about learning the material than being the "big person on campus."

Like dindon, I liked college much better than high school.

Hopefully your anxieties will fade as you get settled into your routine.

If not? And, if at all possible, I might suggest going to night classes instead of day classes, so long as you could pull it off with your aid package. Night students tend to be older, and even the ones who were still my age were easier to relate to than day school students of the same demographic. Obviously, the most important thing is keeping it paid for, but, socially, I felt just that much more comfortable with the slightly older students.
