It's been a year since I've had a visitor in my home.

This crossed my mind a couple of weeks ago, and I've been kind of dwelling on it.

I am the only person who has stepped foot in my home in over a year's time. Last visitor was July 2013, and embarrassingly it was my ex-gf from CA who just happened to be visiting Vegas, so she dropped by to see the house.

No plans to have anyone over anytime soon.

I certainly wasn't trying to set a record, but this is my longest streak yet.

I work full time, meet new people every day, and people seem to like me as much as anybody else.

What's your record?

I can't even remember when someone visited me last time. It's definitely much longer than your record. I don't feel sad or embarrassed about that. My place is in an unbelievably messy state. I couldn't have a visitor even if I wanted to as it would be too embarrassing. And when my place is neat and tidy, I don't want other people's dirty feet to step on my carpet any way. I don't even have extra plates etc as I have no intention of letting people eat in my house. I think this is the result of me having adapted to long-term friendlessness.

If I didn't have family that pops in I suppose I'd go months without company. It wouldn't bother me,I like solitude and there's always something going on outside to keep me amused or busy.
Right now I'm recovering from too much company, daughter visited so that meant people in and out for days.I miss her since she went back to Cali, but I'm also glad I have my privacy back.
Something about company throws my schedule off and I don't get chores done, the yard needs mowing, garden needs weeding bad,and there is a huge pile of dishes.I feel to exhausted to tackle any of these right now.

I fail to see the problem.

Eight years since one brother has been here and about a year or two since my mum has been over the threshold. My dad came in last weekend though because he needed to use the bathroom.

Other than a couple of service techs (which do not count) it has been 14 months for me. I love it and intend to keep it that way. :D

Seeing your username Scott... my first though was... He's Scottish, therefore a wee bit tight with the tea and biscuits, so not likely to get many repeat visitors.
Only teasing; Scotsmen are stereotypically miserly.

It is also said that Aberdonians [which I am] are the most miserly. 8)

I can relate to both not cleaning, because there is no one coming over, and cleaning up like crazy, if someone were to come over!! ! LOL That's pretty normal, but when the gaps are so large, it tends to get messy. (I haven't swept inside my house for the last five months!) Oddly, with the exception of the inside of the house, I maintain the heck out of everything else when no one is around. Yards are clean, garage is spotless, cars are good to go, etc. When someone is here with me, the house is good to go.....everything else gets neglected? haha

@jk1, you've inspired me to clean up this weekend! Thanks for ruining the holiday!! !! !! LOL, jk

@ misslizard, terribly good song lyrics. Terribly good....

I'm guessing there are some who have gone decade(s) without having someone over for mutual socializing.

Thanks for sharing.

Oh, and my name's not Scott, and I'm mixed with a lot of different "breeds".

If you take shoes off when you get home it really helps keep the floors clean.
Corgis tend to shed really bad so I run a dust mop over the floor or I'll have tumble weeds of dog hair rolling around.Lots of spiders here,so I get lots of cob webs. They don't really bother me.I like spiders better than company.
The worst is the winter when ash from the wood heater covers everything.Luckily I have a steep driveway which prevents access during winter storms.heh heh.

I used to be a take your shoes off guy (back in CA), and yes I agree, it's the way to go for keeping your floors tip top.

Here, I painted my floors with an epoxy paint after I moved in. So, to clean up, it's nothing more than a couple hours work with a leaf blower, and a pressure washer. :) The tumble weeds are thick here as we speak!! !! !! !! !

Oh, and when I painted them, I also sealed every crack, crevice, and or hiding place, I could. Bugs don't have anywhere to hide once they're inside. It's difficult for some of them to even get traction on the floor. It makes me feel good inside to watch them suffer, particularly the spiders. I really have a strong dislike for spiders. I'd rather have a party at my house with a dozen people, than have a dozen spiders crawling around (wherever their creepy crawly bodies might be).

Hey, but to each their own.

:P

The spiders are my secret defense system. An intruder will get swarmed, spun in a web,and then devoured.
I went on a crack sealing frenzy once, mice were getting in and two small snakes.Snakes got moved outside, same for the mice after I caught then in a live trap. There was a hole by the sink pipe they were coming in thru.I'm more concerned about keeping mice out.Nothing is as aggravating as finding your favorite t-shirt has been shredded.
I've yet to find a way to keep them out of the car.Peppermint oil worked but then the inside smelled like Schnapps.
Some regions seem to be bug free almost,my daughter had her window open in Cali with no screen at night and no bugs flew in.That would be a joke here, thousands would come in.
