This is based off the entire OST, not one great song in the film.
I like:
A Clockwork Orange
Amelie
Animal House
any Quentin Tarantino film
any Martin Scorsese film
any Wes Anderson film
Black Swan
Blue Velvet
The Blues Brothers
Casino Royale/Skyfall
Drive
The Godfather trilogy
The Graduate
The Great Gatsby (2013)
Guardians of the Galaxy
Hanna
Inception
Les Amours Imaginaires
Midnight in Paris
Ocean's trilogy
Shame
Stoker
The Tree of Life

I know there's mostly newer films here, but I usually just download the OST once it comes out.

The soundtrack to The Red Violin has always been one of my favourites.

John Williams is often cited as the "movie music master", and he's still kicking at age 82. He's probably most famous for scoring all six "Star Wars" films, and has been rehired for the seventh. Among his numerous credits are the following projects; he also has a long working history with Steven Spielberg.

"Lost in Space" TV series (1965)
Valley of the Dolls (1967)
Fiddler on the Roof (1971)
The Poseidon Adventure (1972)
Jaws (1975)
Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977)
Superman: The Movie (1978)
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
E.T. (1982)
Always (1989)
Home Alone (1990)
Hook (1991)
Jurassic Park (1993)
Sabrina (1995)
Amistad (1997)
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2001)
The Terminal (2004)
War of the Worlds (2005)
Lincoln (2012)

"American Hustle" made great use of pre existing period pop songs to create mood . And the CD is cool to listen to without the movie as well. I like the Teddy Pendergrass (as part of Harold Melvin and Blue Notes) version of "Dont leave me this Way" better than the better known hit version of the same Seventies era song (forget the artist's name). Its nice to discover a little known gem like that.
