Why does this woman at work sometimes look at me?

I thought it might be in response to me looking at her. But once I was looking down concentrating on getting my coffee from the machine when I noticed from the corner of my eye she walked in the room while talking on her phone and stopped across from me, looking at me, but talking to whoever, so I turned my head upwards to meet her gaze, and held it for about 3 seconds before walking away with my coffee. Her eyes didn't move when I met her gaze, because she was already looking directly at me (as I suspected).

I make small talk with her sometimes, she is friendly and polite but not all that enthusiastic to talk to me it seems.

Have you considered the fact that it may be confirmation bias?

You somehow started thinking about this for one reason one day and you unconsciously ignore the thousand times she doesnt do this and focus on the couple of times that she does do this.

People like to look at what is surrounding them now and then.

Its hard to just stare at a wall 9/5 and she needs a distraction of some sort now and then.

If she is not that enthusiastic to talk to you its highly unlikely that this event happens because she has feelings for you as people enjoy talking to those they have feelings for

When you work with someone, it's pretty much a certainty that they're going to look at you at some point or another.

Well I don't really look at other people when I'm on the phone.

I find people stare at me often. Maybe its because I look like I don't mind it.

She's probably not staring at you intentionally, rather just staring through you or not focusing her vision while she concentrates on her phone conversation. My dad used to do the same thing when he was concentrating hard and I was in the room.

Sometimes being looked at isn't always a good thing.

Yeah, I was wondering if maybe she spotted some flaw on my face. But it would be rude to stare wouldn't it?
