With the growing number of people registering for WrongPlanet.net and the number of people emailing me for support, I'm becoming overwhelmed! I really need help from you guys! There are many different positions for which you can volunteer depending on your skills.

First of all, we need administrators who would have the responsibility of finding , and formatting correctly, daily stories related to Asperger's Syndrome to put on the front page. You've probably noticed that I haven't been able to update the stories frequently enough. For this position you should have knowledge of HTML so you can reformat submitted stories.

Second, we need administrators who would have the responsibility of approving and maintaining writing/poetry. This is currently a mess because I am not able to sift through the many wonderful stories/poems people have submitted to the site. For this position you should have knowledge of HTML so you can reformat submitted stories.

Third, it would be absolutely *wonderful* if WP could get some php programmer/web designer aspies to help out with the coding of new features and fixing bugs. You will notice that many of the bugs in the bugs forum have not been fixed for months!! !! !

Fourth, I would like to have support admins who can answer feedback emails and help out with whatever is asked. This is a big responsibility since it may include database access which, if in the wrong (i.e. evil) hands, could be used to delete the entire site.

Fifth, I need article writers to produce new and exciting WP.net articles about Asperger's coping subjects. For this responsibility, you only have to know English! You don't even have to know it well! You can get another article proofreader to reword your article even if you have a lot of trouble writing!

People say that WrongPlanet is my site, but this is not really true. I do own the domain name and I do pay for the bandwidth, but what makes the site is the community. Most people chose "friendly community" when describing their favorite site feature. This feature has been provided by YOU. WP.net is really YOUR site. With more community involvement in the management of WrongPlanet, it can become even better than it already is.

Please don't hesitate to offer your help if you have any time to do things. this isn't a job, you can work on making WP great whenever you want. You can contribute just an hour a day, or an hour a week, or an hour a month, or even just an hour a year. But the more you are involved, the more everyone will benifit from WP.net.

Also, you get a cool 8) "Site Admin" tag under your name if you are chosen to do some of these jobs!

If you have any ideas of responsibilities that haven't been covered here (maybe you have an idea that you could help implement), please post it here!

WrongPlanet is whatever you make of it!

How much HTML knowledge do you need for these jobs? I'm in the process of teaching myself right now and might be able to help.

For the news story/article jobs, you only need to know to put in <br> breaks and urls. Generally this is as complex as it'd get:
Code:
<a href="http://nytimes.com">The New York Times reports</a> most people spend their in-world time on the small island known as Brigadoon, a place created for sufferers of autism and Asperger's syndrome to try out the social interactions that are so hard for them in the real world.<br><br>
As a massively multiplayer online game, many people think of Second Life as little more than a virtual playground. But an increasing number of people and organizations are employing the game in applications that are useful for far more than entertainment.

I know breaks, URL's I don't know yet. I might by tommorrow. The book I'm using goes at a fairly fast pace (I learn fast anyways).

Hi Alex, I think this is a great well designed site with great content. I'm a web designer with much html/css experience, and I also do a lot of work w/php/mysql cms'. I wouldn't call myself a php programmer, but more of an occasional php tweaker, and even more often, a reluctant bug fixer.

Anyway, I appreciate all of your and the othe admins' hard work, and would like to give something back to the wp community if I can. Let me know what you need in the way of html/css/php, and I'd be happy to donate some time :)

I can help manage the writing/poetry section if you like. I've been doing HTML for years.

I'd really like to make the nonforum parts of the site more interactive. Possibly linking these features to the forums would be good for discussion.

Also, I want to greatly improve the blog feature. I want to make it so people can see which blogs were last updated which is fairly easy to do since there is some existing code from the phpnuke software which this system is based on. It needs to be ported to our current blog system and site though.

Alex,

I've only been a member for a very short time and you don't really *know* me but I'd love to help out someway.

I don't know programming but I do have at least on hour an day I could be on wp (slow times at work). My people skills are okay so maybe returning e-mails or something would work. The only problem is that *I'd* being learning about the site as I worked.

Plus, of course, I'm not an Aspie.

Please think about how I might help.

PS---Is there someway to help out finacially without buying the WP products?

How far removed is it from phpnuke? do standard phpnuke add-ons and blocks work on this site? also, what version of phpnuke? just one more question... which nonforum parts of the site did you want to make more interactive?

What can I do to contribute? I really
don't know, I do what I do, and
it is not as easy to explain what I do.

Hmmm?
•I am literate in writing

Hmmm?
•By now you folks by now have a good
idea on what motivates me and how I
convey it through my post?

Hmmm?
Any suggestions on how I can help?

Sincerely,
Ghosthunter

P.S...I am may not be expressing confidence
in my wording, but I feel that you know where
my strengths lie, and that is because from
day one here I am clear and open in where
my strengths lie.

I want to have a paypal donation link, but my bank closed my account for being empty :( . I will be opening up a new account soon so I'll be able to get that set up to enable people to donate.

Actually, If you click on an advertisement once a day, it'll probably donate an extra 20 cents. If lots of people are clicking on an ad once a day, it'll add up to a lot. I don't think people like clicking on google ads though and only one click per person is recorded each day so clicking different ads a bunch of times one day won't help anymore than clicking the ad once. just keep in mind that if you see an ad that sounds kind of interesting, if you click it, it will support wrongplanet.net. Even if you just want to click on a link daily it'll greatly help the site.

I can help with anything that only requires knowing English and html. I have only very basic skills in pho so I do not think I will be able to help for that. Otherwise, I can help by being an administrator or admin for submitted writing/poetry, e-mails or I can write a few articles. Just let me know what you need now that some members have already replied.

Alex:

That sounds like a good job, and one that I would be very interested in. However, I don't think I could handle all the responsibility. Sorry.

Alex,

If you decide to close the "Mature Topic" to posters below a certain age, you will need a way to open it to people who are old enough.

If someone could teach me how to add people to a group, I'd be happy to add them as they private message a request.

Something to keep in mind for the future.

(then of course you'd need to decide WHAT age and if you will accept their word on it.)

I can definitely help now. Learned more HTML last night and could probably do something useful now. :D
