Is anyone here a fan of the movies, TV shows, music, video games, fashion, etc. of the 1980s?

For those of you who didn't know, the 80's are coming back! The fashions are really coming in (layering clothes, belts over shirts, band T-shirts, skinny jeans, leggings, big bead necklaces, bangles, kind of big hair, etc.). However, unfortunately 80's television and movies are not. But I guess we'll always have re-runs.

As for the fashion, I was looking through my last school's yearbook from 1985 and it looks like people are trying to be more 80's now than they were in the 80's! That school would also play 80's music in the hall during passing period as well to give it the 80's feeling. It was awesome.

I was born in 1989, so I was only alive for one year of the '80s and I wasn't really aware of what was going on. However, most of the cartoons that I watched as a young kid were from the '80s, and I still think those are some of the best cartoons of all-time. I'm a fan of a few '80s movies, like The Breakfast Club and Bill & Ted. '80s music... there were some good bands that I like, such as The Clash, U2, and The Police. Then there were all the synthpop bands, like Duran Duran, which are very difficult to take seriously. Actually, I sometimes find synthpop fun to listen to because of its camp value, but only when I'm in the right mood and only in small quantities (otherwise it gets annoying). Still, I'd take '80s pop culture over the crappy pop culture of today in a heartbeat. Maybe this is "grass is always greener on the other side" type thinking, but I'd take just about anything over '00s pop culture.

it's not a good thing that the 80s are coming back...the 80s were generally a pretty horrible time. both culturally and politically.

and i've noticed that the 80s styles are coming back...it's as horrible as i thought it would be.

/can't wait for the 90s to come back

I'm obsessed with listening to hair metal and AOR music from the 80's. I'm big on bands like 707, Foreigner, Loverboy, Night Ranger and Skagarack. Some AOR bands continue to pump out 80's style music in the 90's and 21st century. Take Brother Firetribe for instance. But when it comes to TV, I prefer saturday morning cartoons from the 90's, especially SWAT Kats and Road Rovers.

I really like '80s stuff, because I see it in a lot of my favorite movies. The '80s for me are like every earlier decade for everyone else. :P I kind of like the early '90s, too. Shame that I pretty much missed them both. I only have vague recollections of the latter, partially influenced by media depicting the era.

I really, really am not looking forward to the inevitable '90s revival.

Well, I guess the early '90s were alright, but the late '90s were horrible. Bill Clinton was being impeached for cheating on his wife, crappy movies like Titanic were popular, baggy clothes were in fashion, boy bands and girl divas were dominating the radio, rap and Nu Metal (two of the worst forms of music that I've ever heard - actually, I don't think they even deserve the right to be called "music") were gaining mainstream popularity... All of those things were bad IMO. Not a good time. Not good at all.

The '80s, on the other hand, at least seem like they would have been more fun. And I'm a libertarian, so I can't really complain about the capitalism of the '80s.

It's funny, to many people the 80's were crap like Culture Club and Duran Duran.

I remember the 80's for the expanding Indie Rock, Punk and Industrial scene:

Pixies, Pavement, Birthday Party, SNFU, Skinny Puppy, Jesus Lizard, JMC, Hüsker Dü, Dead Kennedys, Dickies, Dead Milkmen etc etc etc.

Few of these bands got anywhere near the radio, what a shame.

Oh, and in the future people will see the late 90's as a belle epoque.

I listen to Rush, they were great in the 80's and today... but that's about it.

word...the 90s went to crap around 97 or so.

which is a shame because one of my favorite music genres came to prominance there....third wave ska/punk movement.
