Do all apsies feel the glass wall or does it depend on the degree?

Depends on what you mean by "glass wall". Are you referring to what I usually call the "invisible wall between myself and other people"? It's the "thing" that makes me feel like an observer rather than a participant etc. If so, I can't say all aspies feel like that (simply because I don't know what other people feel) but I sure do.

Yes. I do. Even with my beloved aspie husband of going on 14 years.

For me, yes. Sometimes it is a one way mirror and I feel invisible, but I can see everything going on and even understand fully, but am unable to join in.

Usually I'm at peace with that.

I don't feel a glass wall, I did in high school but I don't anymore.

Thank you. I'm still trying to grasp it, and I will in time, but I still can't put myself in that situation.

Kirang, are you aspie or NT?

If you touch or click on a name on the left margin you'll see the person's profile.

I agree with Kirang. I'm not sure what it is. I touch it often. Sometimes I bounce off, sometimes I crash, sometimes I step forward and achieve something. But whatever it is, I feel it too.

I think if there is one thing or perhaps two things that everyone with any kind of Autism Spectrum condition has it is a bit more separation between their inner self and the world outside themselves than neurotypical people. I think to varying degrees all of us on the Autism Spectrum are all in our own world - The degree of this separation and the degree to which one is in their own world basically corresponds with how autistic someone is.

The reason I felt a glass wall from Grades 8-12 was because my peers didn't appreciate individuality. I felt rejected and eventually jaded, so I put a glass wall around me as a result.

Yes. People are always at a distance regardless whether they or I want it to be that way.

At first I thought you were wondering if Aspies like to touch glass walls, then I read the first response

But yes, I have always felt like there is a "glass wall" between me and others. I used to tell people sometimes that I felt very disconnected from others, but I didn't know why.

What about with other aspies?

Each aspie is different -- in spite of that, does the glass wall still occur just as often with another aspie, who understands your situation, veresus with an NT. ??

Does anyone have an NT with whom they don't feel the glass wall because of the quality of the relationship and the understanding of the NT ?
