I'm serious. I was walking home from the bus stop when someone who was clearly not in a good state of mind threw a dead pigeon at me. I didn't quite know how to react. I just ran home as fast as I could.

The first reaction is annoyance.
Second reaction is wondering why a person would do such a stupid thing.
After that you just feel sorry for the person who is either high on drugs, or just plainly stupid and immature.

I would be afraid of the bird having a disease. That's weird.

I honestly do not know how I'd react to that....don't know if I would run away or stand there and wonder 'did someone actually just throw a dead pigeon at me'? and then walk away with a confused look on my face.

Some people do things like that as a joke or something but I find it not good because it's bad to scare people like that by suddenly throwing something at them and especially a pigeon

I had exactly the same thought.

Dead bird (not killed by cat or vehicle impact = potential for avian zoonotic disease.

This seems like a very nasty assault--throwing the dirtiest thing they could find short of feces. This is crossing a pretty serious line. Don't try this in Texas.

I'm sorry they threw a dead bird at you. :( I'm very glad it didn't do physical harm to you!

On the plus side you now have a very cool anecdote to use in the right situation. You could 'win' many an internet joke contest with it.

Wow. I've never experienced that before. I've had a snowball thrown at me, but that's about it. Never a dead animal. I don't think anyone in their right mind would even think of doing something like that. So that person might have been very high on drugs and completely out of his mind. Still, if somebody is as mentally disturbed as that, I'd rather them throw a dead animal at me than stab me to death. But it's still not acceptable at all to throw a dead animal at somebody. That's just gross.

Bus stops are weird places. Everyone around here at the bus stop smells like pot.

That is ridiculously weird. Who goes from ooh there's a dead bird to let's chuck the dead bird at someone.

From my perspective, there are several ways to deal with this:
-- within the system
-- taking matters into your own hands
-- ignore it and hope it goes away

Each of these has it's respective pros and cons, which you will have to live with.

The latter can have unintended and ironic consequences, believe it or not.

This behavior is so bizarre I would think it is likely a one-off. I wouldn't think any action is needed unless it seems possible that it might happen again.
The perpetrator was

someone who was clearly not in a good state of mind

Respectfully, this person was within walking distance of your home, on what might be a regular route of yours.

One of my friends (luckily, larger) was struck with a golf club on my front porch, by one of my school bullies.

And, one of my Mom's primary school students found a loaded gun, in a field, left by a local, petty vandal. (Noone was hurt.)

What I would like to do is a forgive, forget, find my happy place, and regress into it.

But, that can have unintended consequences.
