I once had my hair cut short before I went to a nightclub to chat up some girls. My brother said to me "dude if you want to pick up girls grow your hair long it gave you so much more characteristic now you just look like a carbon copy of everyone else"

What did he mean "carbon copy of everyone else?"

It means ´a carbon copy of everyone else´. Since most guys have short hair.
Was that so hard to figure out? :S

Why might my brother think looking like a carbon copy is a bad thing?

Because people won't notice you and won't be fascinated by you. Why would they have you if they can have one of your twin brothers? Having long hair would make you stand out more.

Personally though I don't find long hair as attractive as shorter hair on men. Perhaps because I associate it with geeks/nerds/metalheads/goths.

In order for one to stand out, and be noticed, one must not be a "carbon copy" of anybody else.

Otherwise, you will not be noticed, and be ignored.

It helps people remember and find you. If someone talks to 10 people and you're the only one with long hair then the next time they see you they're more likely to remember which one was you.

I had mid-back long hair twice in the last 15 years. Now, it is lucky to grow to half an inch in length. I prefer it this way, but I admit that when I had long hair, I was noticed more often. Now, I love being anonymous.

It depends on the person. Some guys get a lot less action with long hair.

I like long hair on guys I think it looks attractive...but that is not to say short hair looks bad, I certainly prefer the look of long hair though. Suppose it depends on the female whether they'd find it attractive or not.

I think it depends on the guy. I've seen guys look awful with long hair and also look good with long hair. Mine is really thick (best of both my parents) and I'm tempted to grow it out, but the intervening stage when it's too long for short hair isn't that attractive, unfortunately.

It depends on your head shape, being bald looks good on some and not on others, it's the same with long hair.

If you want a safe and professional choice, go for mid-length hair, try searching mid length hair men into Google for some ideas.

I love longer hair on guys. Especially that 90's grunge Kurt Cobain sort of style. Yum.

I've been rocking the long hair for a while now and it's worked out great for me! My Fiance loves it!

No, having short hair doesn't make a guy a carbon copy. Long hair is just unusual so it makes you stand out more. That's not the same thing.

Personally, I don't get the importance placed on hair. Unless there's a specific cultural/religious significance to it, it's just hair.

I rarely like long hair on men although sometimes it can be nice, mid length hair is nice and a shaved head can be really nice. I guess it all depends on the man, but really long hair on a man I do not like.

I like boys with long hair. I found that out when I was 12. I don't know why they attract me so much, maybe I just think it suits boys better than short hair. And part of it may be because it's different from the "Normal" short hair that most boys have. But yes, I really like boys with long hair...
