If I get an diagnosis, will my future employer know that I have Asperger?

I am a college student. I'm worried that it will affect my future employment if I get a formal diagnosis.

I have a diagnosis and my employer does not know. You do not have to tell him, although I can't speak for all countries, maybe it's different somewhere.

I wouldn't think so, unless of course, you decided to tell your employer yourself. Your physician shouldn't tell anyone either, due to doctor confidentiality agreements.

Not sure of your location but here in the US it can matter very much. Since you speak of a "future" job and you already have been diagnosed. The reason is that to be hired by many employers, they require either disclosure of illness and in some cases ask if you can perform a certain job (after reading the job requirements) without special allowances. If you omit or lie on these it states that is reason for immediate termination once they find out. Employment here is At-Will so they can let you go for any reason or no reason.

P.S. They sometimes will request a list of your medications on the premise they might prevent you from doing the intended job. Oftentimes this will give them an idea of what conditions you are being treated for.

In the US if you consent to a background check it may include releasing your medical records. But you definitely have to give your consent for that.

If you are in the US you absolutely do not have to tell. You can also request accommodations from a university without telling anyone except disability services what the actual disability it. For a job, you may have to state that you can perform the functions of the job, but do you really want a job you couldn't do anyway? I've always been told to apply for jobs I can do well and then ask for accommodations that do not impact my performance.

I think medical records are supposed to be kept private, and you do not have to disclose the diagnoses to an employer. However in some cases it could be helpful for them to know, downside is there are plenty that might not hire someone if they out right admit to having mental 'condition' stupid I know but seems to be the way it is.

they should not just by getting a diagnosis.
doctors are bound by confidentaility, they need your explicit permission to tell anyone of your diagnosis, so the only way your employer should know is if you tell him yourself

In the U.S. it varies by state.

You only are required to formally disclose your disability for certain jobs, though for most it is voluntary.
They are not allowed to ask in most cases, due to the law.

It really depends on each case whether you want to disclose or not.
It is illegal at the Federal level to discriminate against the disabled and fire them because of their disability, in most cases.

The only employer of the top of my head that isn't allowed to hire people with Asperger Syndrome (and the other ASDs) is the United States Military!
You also are exempt from the draft, if it ever returns.

They will also not hire you if their medical examination, shows that you might have Asperger Syndrome or another ASD, even it you haven't been diagnosed.

They won't know unless you choose to tell them.

How about medical insurance company? Are they going to raise the insurance?
