Ok, so im new here and i have this problem.

I have aspergers syndrome for a start coz i was diagnosed when i was 5.

Anyway, i have always had problems sticking to tasks that dont take my personal interest, i often seem spaced out in a lot of my classes at college, and i find it hard to read books that only contain writing and no picture to look at, i even struggle to read some of the huge posts people put on here.

I also have a problem controling my temper and agression.

Is it possable that i may have attention defecit disorder co existing with my aspergers?

Any replies would be a great help, thank you.

It's possible. I do, or rather Dr. X (not her real name) said I did. Maybe you do too.

Dr Weil says coffee may help with ADD.

There is also evidence that DMAE may help with it too. I take a supplement called Attentive Child that my mom gets free samples of from the herb shop she works at.

I do tend to drink quite a lot of energy drinks.

Caffeine helps me to focus, but the problem with it is that the effects dont last very long, and i am very caffeine sensitive and it makes me quite impulsive.

I have exactly the same problem. I have suspected myself as being verbally dyspraxic as well as having AS. I find it hard to say things verbally, and my mind cannot focus on one thing. Dyspraxia is often confused with ADHD.

Yeah.

Do you ever get this feeling when all you want to do is sleep because you are so bored on a task?

And also, do you get this strange feeling of over drowseyness when you wake up in the morning, making it difficult to get up?

I was finally officially diagnosed with ADD...but for some time now I am suspecting that I am an Aspie...I didn't know what Apserger's was..till somebody told me about it...and looking into it, lifelong i really have experienced a WHOLE lot of Aspie traits...I am a big troublesome mess....but it really explains a whole lot....and plus there is weird autistic spectrum and OCD type stuff that runs in the family...

I drank 32 oz of coffee a day at college to stay awake and took ephedrine often also.
The problem which such drugs is they are not very CNS selective. They effect the SNS
also. The real problem is the CNS effects develop rapid tolerance and the SNS effect do not. So you left with a long list of side effects in no time and limited benefits.

Drugs like dextroamphetamine are much more CNS selective. A simple definition of
ADHD is a certain part of the brain is in a slower theta state(dreamy , spacey). Stimulants are good at stimulating that part of your brain to a faster beta state that is a highly focused state. Diagnostically you can tell a group of person with ADHD from a control group by comparing their EEG (brain waves) but its not currently possible to
dx an individual with EEG.

These guys did a cute video on ADHD. Part 2 seems to have malfunctioned with the subtitles. And a few minor technical errors to that are not important to most people.

I have ADD, and apparently it is very possible to have both ADD and AS.

When I get bored on a task, I get incredibly frustrated and just want to be anywhere else but there. Almost like an episode of sensory overload, only it's sensory UNDERload. If that makes any sense. I need to be in the middle - not too much, not too little.

As for waking up in the morning, oh man, if there is some kind of "zombie disorder", then I have it for sure! But apparently, up to 98% of people with ADD have a hard time waking in the morning. I have to literally force myself out of bed. I can't just hit my alarm clock and jump up. People think they understand difficulty gettign up in the morning, but they always say "you get used to it after a while". Well, it's been 28 years and I'm still waiting!

My relative has ADHD and ASD. The ADHD is the more severe out of the two, the ASD is mild, but when he's under stress the two combined disorders can lead to some very aggressive behaviour :!:

I know my brother has ADHD and has been recently diagnosed. But I couldn't say 'cause I don't know much about it. That, and his symptoms may be a little mixed in with his autism. Most people here probably know more than I do.

But now I want to know more about it. I'll probably end up researching it a little more.

This is very interesting. How does one tell someone that they have some kind of mental 'disorder'? I know that its easy just to make references to diagnoses but I prefer just to name 'symptoms'.

I find it impossible to deal with people when they are said to be "there for you" - except that they "have to" follow the terminology of pathologizing everything. Its like if I mention a disorder (like these kind) then I will expect that people think of something tangible like diabetes or stigma and then psychiatric drugs i.e they call medicine like medicine for diabetes etc. Anyhow, if there was no maturity in this world because I can't make references to my differences and talk about problems or anything then I would be dead a long time ago. I would of ended my life. But sometimes I feel like there is stigma. And guess who's fault it is? Its those f-ckheads who popularize how we veiw things and of how we relate to one another. So people who have problems are very likely just to be one-sided...

(Its not part of life anyway as of their side so why do I "play along" so much? But I don't, really. I just know that its there...)

I can say at this moment that the "real disorders" of disorders are the ones that impair the quality of life - ones that make us mostly house-bound etc. Either that or me being 22 is too young to compare myself to "success" / independance. Another aspect of disorders is has to do with relationships. What runs in families can indeed be seen because of what a dignaoses means in this society. People just don't understand others differences or perhaps it doesn't really matter. Perhaps it has nothing to do with making that into accountabily or anyone to be held accountable for anything..
