Okay so there's this weird thing that only my friend and I seem to have because when I explain it to other people they all get really confused. So I wanted to know if any of you know what I'm talking about. So you know when someone says something to you and the sentence is just two seconds long but in your head it feels like it was way longer because you had time to think more things than you usually would in two seconds ---> like if they had said it in slow mo. And at the beggining of a word (in that sentence) you imagine they're gonna say a completely different word but that starts exactly the same as the word they were gonna say.

Can't say I fully understand what you're talking about, but about that part where you think they're going to say a different-but-still-similar word... could it be that you're anticipating it from seeing how their mouth moves to form the syllables that make up the word? That might explain why the incorrect word you're thinking of starts the same. I'd imagine that it would require some seriously fast processing of what's going on, though considering that it feels a bit like slow motion to you, it might be worth thinking about.

On the other hand, I may just be spouting total nonsense. It would also only make sense if you always had at least their mouth in your vision whenever it happened, as far as I think, anyway. Do you remember any of the situations in enough detail to answer that?

I can't say it's as they talk in slow motion, but I do often experience situations where the sentence and it's meaning really don't come through. Especially at school this causes problems, because I sometimes can't finish a test, just because the questions don't get through even after reading them 10 more times.

I'd say it's very common.

It's like knowing what a song is after five notes or so.

Thanks; that was pretty cool and useful to know (along with all the others who answered ) to give you an example, my friend was talking about some presentation and i was half listening (but I was facing her) and just as she started saying the word presentation, I just visioned she was gonna say president. So maybe my brain is fast enough to think about the word she's gonna say before she actually says it; but is yet too slow to make sure that word actually makes sense with the context.
