Here is a question:

If there were something you could take that would make you be able to articulate your thoughts to someone for just a minute or two, not an Aspie cure but something that just made you be able to explain yourself...............would you?

I keep seeing the " if there was a cure" question and I would not change my brain for anything but man if I could just be able to stay on topic and explain myself sometimes, that would rock!

What are your thoughts on this?

This would be a good Poll but I don't know how to do that.

God, yes. I would take the pill. I suspect I would become a hopeless addict.

“To make biological survival possible, Mind at Large has to be funnelled through the reducing valve of the brain and nervous system. What comes out at the other end is a measly trickle of the kind of consciousness which will help us to stay alive on the surface of this particular planet. To formulate and express the contents of this reduced awareness, man has invented and endlessly elaborated those symbol-systems and implicit philosophies which we call languages. Every individual is at once the beneficiary and the victim of the linguistic tradition into which he or she has been born -- the beneficiary inasmuch as language gives access to he accumulated records of other people's experience, the victim in so far as it confirms him in the belief that reduced awareness is the only awareness and as it be-devils his sense of reality, so that he is all too apt to take his concepts for data, his words for actual things.”

I have no use for that thing. I don't have problems expressing myself verbally. What I have a problem with thou is people actually paying attention & caring about what I say.

Having been bullied, made fun of and frustrated my entire life by my lack of verbal articulation, I always had this fantasy where I would make some kind of deep and eloquent speech which would knock everyone's socks off and have them in awe and wanting to know more - and then refuse to speak another word as long as I live.
The best I can do now is to tell them to f**k off in sign language.

It would be really useful to have sometimes. I don't know how to speak "NT", so I often get misinterpreted.

This make me so happy to see that I am not alone in this. I know everyone is different but sometimes it's nice to hear that people have the same problems and concerns as I do. I don't know what level of Aspie I am as I am 52 and all the doctors I have been to think I am "well adjusted" and that testing is "to expensive" so I should just forget about it. They think I am well adjusted because I have spent a lifetime faking "ok" and lieing about my real feelings. Sorry tangent blah blah blah thanks again everyone at wrong planet :D

I am far more eloquent a writer than speaker. When I'm under the scrutiny and stares of others my thought train gets derailed far too easily. Sometimes either I forget what I wanted to say, or I lose the courage to say difficult things I need to say. But the older I get, I've noticed how much more lazy the "traffic cop" (meaning the frontal lobe of my brain) has gotten. I find myself voicing commentary that I'd never dared say out loud 20 years ago.

I'm finding as I get older I have far less hesitation to voice those sarcastic and snarky comments, that even when true, probably aren't nice. Other people's opinions seem to matter to me less and less with every passing day- and that's not necessarily a bad thing. :skull:

Jim- I'm 46, diagnosed at age 35 after 3 episodes of major depression, numerous panic attacks, PTSD, and 20+ years of "faking normal."

I was addicted to overwork and spread so thin that I didn't know if I was coming or going. I was successful professionally, (because I was so focused and so obsessed,) but my health had gotten to the point where my blood pressure was uncontrollable, I was having bleeds into the scleras of both eyes, (which is a precursor to stroke) and I could barely function due to PTSD.

It took a major life change - a career shift, a return to reliance upon God, counseling, and, yes, medication, to help get me to a better place.

You are right in wanting to understand how your wiring works and to be better equipped to work with the parameters you've been given regardless of your age. It's an amazing revelation to be in my 40s and getting to a place where I'm comfortable in my own skin, pretty much for the first time in my life. Get the answers you're looking for. It's worth it for your mental and spiritual health. :skull:

It would be interesting to try such a pill, but I seem to get by without it. I haven't data-dumped verbally for a long time, not in a way that's caused any trouble.

I'm not sure it would do a lot of good unless it also allowed nonverbal signals to work, as well as explaining thoughts.

" I haven't data-dumped verbally for a long time"

Love that phrase, data dumped. Often friends just get this glossy eyed look and tune me out when I am doing this. To have a word or phrase for it will make it easier for me to be concious of when I am doing it, thanks :D

Nope, don't need such a pill. I've been called articulate many times in my life so I think I have that down just fine. On the other hand, I'm not always concise.. lol
