I started working the summer I was 15. My parents pressured me for months to take whatever menial job I could get, sacking groceries or flipping burgers (which would have lasted less than a day), but I had a lead on something I really wanted to do and I held out for that. It was a good decision, because I loved doing it and made a 30+ yr career out of it. I've never understood how people can do jobs they don't care about, I would go insane if I had to do the same thing day after day and I didn't enjoy it.

I had a few paper-boy, sweeping-the-floor, delivery-type jobs before age 18.

My first "real" job: Age 18. Order Picker for an insurance company. I used to play baseball with the rubber bands. I was bullied by this guy who wanted to "beat me up" after work. I left that job for a "clerk-typist" position.

14. I was a busboy at a franchise restaurant. Hated it due to too many bully coworkers, so I soon changed to a fast food gig that I liked much more.

15, construction (demolition).

I wonder if there is a trend here. It seems like those of us who started work earlier in life had better results in the job market later on, going by what I remember about most of you.

Don't be silly, I almost turned 23 at a warehouse job that only lasted 2 days, but I guess you can say i'm 23 and still can't get a job.

I had lots of odd jobs doing newspapers, shops, summer jobs etc from when I was about 14.

I didn't get a full time job til I was about 26 and only held it down for more than about a year. Then another job lasted 3 months. The job I've got now is the longest I've managed, 2.5 years and I didn't get that til I was 40 and after Id been volunteering for them for a bit. They deal with disabled adults so its easier for them to accept I'm not perfect.

My first real job I got just a few months ago, working 12 hour shifts in a warehouse, can't complain because it pays pretty good.

I was 18 and I worked there for a year and a half, but I didn't like it (grocery store). Working in stores has a lot of unpleasantness, not just from customers but from coworkers and how staff treat customers, especially those with visible disabilities.
