I wouldn't ever give money to a stranger, especially not anything close to that amount, not unless that had a gun or knife or something pointed at me. I live around a lot of homeless people and junkies, after a while it becomes just second nature avoiding them. Don't make eye contact, don't stop, don't engage with them, don't listen to whatever spiel they have to say, just say a short pointed response like "no" /"sorry"/"I have nothing"/"I'm broke", and just keep walking. Most of these people do this stuff all day and are just playing the law of averages that a certain amount of people will give them money when they beg for it, they'll just move on to the next person to try to extract money from. Any body saying they need money for food is lying, anybody making some story up about needing gas money is lying, I would imagine the majority asking for change for the bus are lying too, most of these people just want money to get obliterated on drugs or alcohol altho some are just straight up professional scammers. I am more willing to give somebody change if they were just honest with me and said they just really need a beer or whatever than making up some ridiculous lie to try to guilt me.
I have sympathy for these people, the real worst off ones usually aren't the ones begging however. The aggressive ones are usually junkies or the professionals who just game the system.
Well I was worried that if i refused to give him money he might throw a punch at me? I was going for a night out on the town i didn't want to spoil it 'possibly' getting into a fight with someone.
