I just heard on CNN that the voice recorder was damaged, but French authorities are trying to make repairs in order to discover what happened.

Hopefully they'll be successful. My mind reels whenever there are tragic events like these, for some reason, trying to imagine the horrific carnage, agony, and psychological terror these people must have gone through. I don't know why I do that.

Its pretty weird, one of the pilots was locked out of the cockpit as the plane crashed.

I predict that more similarities will be found between this event, and the plane that was lost in the Indian Ocean last year.

I'll be very interested to hear the name of the guy in the cockpit. If it's Muhammed El Something, we'll know why the plane crashed.

I heard someone on the news say that they found the black box, but that the contents were missing or something. I haven't heard anyone suggesting terrorism yet though.

One of the black boxes has been found - the cockpit voice recorder. It allegedly recorded sounds of one of the pilots trying to get back into the cockpit after having been locked out.

I've bet money on something similar happening on flight MH 370 last year ...

So horrible, that any one can murder so many people. I feel sick.

What if it now turns out that the pilot had Aspergers? Would you like it if people asume that everyone with Aspergers are psychopaths?

(Kitty can't into the jokey.)

They say that the pilot deliberately smacked into a mountain.

Nope, I can't. I don't think it was funny or appropiate.

That the idiot couldn't just have killed himself and left everyone else alone, I cannot fathom this.

Yeah, they're saying that the pilot was locked OUT of the cockpit. The investigators can hear, from the black box recording, the pilot pounding on the door; they can hear the co-pilot breathing; they can hear people screaming. They are saying that the plane was turned-around, and AIMED at the Alps. The guy's name was Andreas Lubitz----sounds German, to me; but, that doesn't mean he wasn't working for some kind of terrorist group. It boggles my mind why anyone would do this, JUST to kill THEMSELVES----so, I'm thinking "terrorist".....

What if we don't make baseless assumptions that merely add more anxiety to an already dreadful situation?

Heard the same. And thought -> Panic attack? Anxiety? Deep depression?

… A person with a sudden onset of a mental condition is not cable of thinking of others lives. Because they are in the condition which does not allow any rational/ logical thinking at all (with the exception of thoughts about how to reach the goal of suicide effectively).

There should be some rule which does not allow pilots to lock each other out (e.g. the door is open-able from outside when locked with a spare key). Otherwise there is no way to avoid suicides like this …

(same would be helpful to avoid terrorist-pilots too)
