After being hit pretty hard by a return of depression and a severe illness that left me basically bedridden for three weeks, I showered an hour ago! Only the second time in three weeks, oops.

I mean, when the sadness came back, I found myself putting showers off for two or three days, but since I got sick I just can't desire the experience. I used to love showering, bathing daily if not sometimes twice a day. But it's just like....no thanks. The effort, the energy...Even in this shower I found myself unusually uncomfortable in the warm water, though usually have near-scalding baths. I just wanted it over.

Anyway, I thought maybe some folks here could understand the "victory" of this, as I know baths aren't some of our favorites. I'm just happy I can wear my nice new robe without stinking it up with BO

Congratulations on your "victory"! I know that state of mind, although in my case it's mostly with other things. Everything feels like a task that requires a lot of effort. I hope things will improve for you soon (although I know it's not that simple).

When I am in a writing spree that can last for about 7-10 days, I tend not to take any showers. In this period, I don't do any shopping, no sporting, no bating/showering, no clean clothes, no room/house cleaning; I just create stuff. But at the end of these periods I become exhausted, intellectually. The first thing I do is some good outside sporting, then I do shopping: fresh fruits and veggies and other vegan stuff, then I take a long shower. It feels so great to be fresh and clean again, instead of smelling like a zombie.

Having suffered from depression in the past, yes, I do understand the victory of managing to take a shower.

oops......did it again.

I only feel very remotely compelled to bathe right now because a) I feel guilty to be doing something as "nasty" as not showering and b)I had to rush to class today and became suddenly paranoid that my sweat smelled especially bad, though I don't think it did.

but, eh.

It's not the clean part that's lifting you, well, unless your face is dirty. Baths and showers can improve blood circulation. You must have needed it badly after being in bed for that length of time. Try a cold water shower after a hot bath or hot shower, that'll wake you up. Remember though, you don't actually have to clean yourself to get the good blood circulation, but it helps to be clean as well. After a while, I feel awful if i don't have a face shave.

Honestly I don't feel much better after showering now, just less ashamed. I realized it feels like an attack. I find my breath catching when the water hits me, even though that used to only happen if I was suddenly in cold water. Now it's like an assault by water.
