What kind of sensory issues do other teens have?

I'm especially sensitive to light and noise, although sometimes touch bothers me.

Wow; creative name...
I'm more sensitive to sound, id say.
Do you freak out when there's to much light or noise, or do you just happen to be more sensitive to it?

Thanks :D

It depends on how I am feeling or what's happening around me. Light usually give me a sore head and sore eyes and makes me feel ill which can make me shutdown. It depends on the noise too, some noises make me really agitated and annoyed others can make me shutdown.
Do you freak out when there is too much sound?

It depends a lot of the sound. White noise is great. Certain frequencies make me double over; too much time around crowds will put me into shutdown. Vacuum cleaners will put me on edge for a while after.

Certain colors are painful to look at (bright ones, like a very red red) as are bright lights, like driving at night.

Touching certain things makes me shiver, like satin, or freak out, like some metals.

I really wish I had got a handbook of these things when I was born. It's annoying having to suddenly react to things and wondering if it's psychosomatic or an allergy or what. Of course, now I know it's just "sensory issues."

I'm sensitive to lights because of my headaches. I also don't like screeching noises or objects with weird-looking holes.

Also, I used to be really sensitive to food textures before I went on a new med.

One word: life. I can brush up against something and the rubbing sound can make me freeze in space. And don't even mention styrofoam. May Ray Mclntire rot in the deepest depths of Gehenna.

I forgot to mention that one. I can only eat some foods. I have the same dinner every night, much to my mums annoyance.

I know right? Styrofoam is quite possibly the most terible invention in the history of humanity.

It hurts my head just thinking about it :pale:

Another thing I can't stand is when people chew near me :eew:

I'd say sound is the worst for me; when I'm trying to do something like playing a game, if two people near me are talking I won't be able to concentrate and I'll sometimes yell at them to shut up.

Also some food textures/tastes make me throw up like mushrooms and fish for exemple

I agree Styrofoam is awful. If someone gives me a drink in a Styrofoam cup I absolutely hate it. The sound it makes and the feel are painfully awful.

Loud eaters and chewing also are things I can't stand and people who 'slurp' drinks. Its just wrong!

My brother does it on purpose  He knows how much I can't stand it so he does it more. :x

Seems so many hate styrofoam

It doesn't bother me

I used to play with styrofoam cups--a friend of my brothers' was very slowly and methodically turning one inside out during a lecture on Sunday afternoon. I was fascinated by the process he used and spent several months trying it with every styro cup I got.

Very frustrating because it would often tear--either the bottom would tear out, or I'd get all the way up to the rim and the rim would tear.

I don't remember for sure whether I ever actually achieved the task. Probably not. If I did I think I'd remember.

Sound--jangley keys, stirring food in a metal pot with a metal spoon, slamming doors and cupboards, any sound above a few decibels at all right behind my back, any sound I can't identify unless I'm 99-100% relaxed. Lots of others

Sight--anything moving fast really close to my face, and any really bright fast moving lights at any distance. Strobe lights are worse than anything; I'm as :skull: about strobe lights as the rest of y'all are about styrofoam. :D

Touch--tags and seams in clothing, anything sticky, any moisture at all under my feet especially if I'm wearing socks. Anything underfoot, really, that isn't smooth/soft and above all clean. I can't stand to walk barefoot on unswept floors and unvacuumed carpets. :P

Food textures--anything dry and gritty, especially beans and mushrooms. bleah Also I don't like the fizziness of soft drinks and prefer sodapop flat or not at all, I'll have fruit juice if it's available or water if it's not.

Tastes and smells--bananas, blueberries, and anything that even hints at sour milk. I can't tolerate yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream or cheesecake. I also don't like nuts of any kind because I've gotten an unpleasant bumpy rash in my mouth too many times when I didn't know there were nuts in my foods. I don't like spicy food either, scofield units are the bane of my existence. Anything hotter than paprika and bell peppers and I'm miserably begging for an ice cold glass of fresh milk.

Hope it's okay that I answered this even though I'm not a teen. Believe me, all these issues except maybe the sound sensitivity have existed since I was 8-9, let alone in my teens.

That stuff mainly. School is difficult for me at times with the lighting, noise and being brushed up against in the hallways.
