I'm so angry and upset

I went out for a couple of hours this morning and when I got back I found someone had been in my backyard and stolen my old yorkstone flags, I mean lifted them and taken them away, I know they're valuable but you just don't expect someone to go and remove your yard while you're out

it's hideous, I love my backyard and those flags must have been there for decades, it's an old house they may even have been the original ones from when the house was built, they were beautiful and weathered and I loved them and now they're gone

aaaarrrgghhhh!! !! !! !! !!

I'm reading about so much crime in the UK my view of it being so much more civil than
the wild west of America is being challenged.

Dogs are helpfull at keeping people out of your yard.

Or pehaps:

The pit has an advantage as it can be readily converted to a grave :)

I think those are illegal now.

I'm always terrified of an attack on the things I care about. I've gone ballistic, sometimes targeting the wrong person after something like this happens. I feel for you.

Only if they find the person so you got to cover them up quick and plant new grass

And the dirt you fill up the pit with comes from your second pit you dig beside the old one.

Sorry to hear about your trouble konyannah. In the last 12 months I've had my bike nicked and a stereo from a car - all from outside my house (bike was locked in a shed). We've just had a load of copper pipe ripped out during a break-in at work - these people are unbelievable.

You're right there. The UK is degenerating bit by bit everyday. It depresses me seeing the news now.

And it's all compounded by the stupid wishy-washy "anti-crime" initiatives the government comes out with (like "on the spot fines" for shoplifters instead of a criminal record  ).

And the sentencing here is laughable. Life rarely means life - it's more like "Life" with a tariff, with 50% off for pleading guilty, and let's take off all the time on remand (up to a couple of years), and then up for parole after half the final tariff is served. This means some murderers might be eligible for parole 3 or 4 years after sentencing - what a joke.

In the old days you had your colonies to ship the law breakers to. But even if you had a place to ship them it would not be political correct these days.

thanks guys

I'm a bit calmer now, specially as I spoke to my insurance company and it's covered by my policy so at least I can get them replaced

the UK is one big crime wave, especially in the big cities (I live in Manchester)

Oh, bummer. It's never nice when someone disregards your space and wishes and existence. I wonder how they knew the flagstones were back there?

Glad you will be able to get new flagstones, but know they won't really replace what's been taken from you.

well as you ask I reckon I know who did it: there were some contractors working out back, ironically on environmental improvements aimed at reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, there's an alleyway and a stream with a footpath next to it that attracts youths and dodgy activity - the council have been improving it by stripping out the bushes and widening the path etc, these guys had been around for a week or so and I reckon they expected me to be out all day and whaddya know, a couple of hours after the crime they packed up and left - coincidence huh? they're an Irish firm and I reckon they've had travellers working for them who are well known for this sort of opportunistic predation

damn pikeys

sorry to hear that.

my car got broken into and all my CDs stolen not too long ago.

i looked into insurance and there was a $500 deductible... and I would have gotten depriciative values based off when the album came out... not when i bought them.

so basically... it wasn't worth my time. :(

glad you can replace your flags though
