While I was asleep overnight, nobody was able to post on these forums, but now they work. What happened?

Whew I thought it was just me!

Kept getting a General Error message saying something about SQL.

Could see the site from my tablet but not from my laptop.

For the past 7 or so hours wrongplanet kept having errors of different types. It was weird. Sometimes you could get on the site but couldn't post. Others you just couldn't get on. I dunno what they were doing.

Yup, same here, SQL Error Message. I could see the site on my laptop, but not on my tablet.

The server was rebooted around 1am (EST) due to being completely overloaded with traffic. When it came back up, everything appeared to stabilize, but there was intermittent issues with the database that weren't noticed until later. I have repaired the database and the site appears fine now.

It was certainly weird, lol I even re-started my computer trying to get the site to load then when it still didn't work I just went to bed I was tired anyways.....seems fine now though.

be glad you were asleep. I either got that error message or it'd say I was permanently banned by ip. made for a rough night, good thing I was super tired so i eventually fell to sleep. super glad just error. it terrified me.

As this site is full of technical problems, I knew straight away that it was another one of them again. But I actually did think that the unavailability of WP might be due to it being down while the bugs were finally being fixed.

Yep me too, I thought the site might be down while they fix the known bugs. Was worried about other probabilities too but kind of wondered about this one the most. But then I accessed it from my tablet and it seemed fine on there so I tried to make a post -- and it said they "can't be submitted" -- so then I thought the site was fine it's just me who's been banned! :lol:

Same here, I thought I'd accidentally said something wrong and I was banned forever because I may or may not have been intoxicated last night :oops: But I looked at the times people posted at and there was just this huge gap and that made me realise it was a site issue :P

If you really were permabanned it would only be after getting a number of warnings from the moderators, unless you were a sockpuppet troll or did something like posting gore or porn.
You're in no danger.

thanks for fixing this! and jk, i also thought that this was intentional and had to do with the bug fixes.

There was a database corruption caused by too many people posting to the site at once. We had to repair the tables. It has nothing to do with bugs and everything to do with the fact that the site is getting more popular than it has in the past. We might have to make some upgrades soon to accommodate the new demand.

But a lot of that traffic was from the asian spambots, right?

No. Spambots are filtered out by cloudflare, our CDN and filtering system. There are things we can do to improve the performance for all the users but the main improvement will require the site to go down for a day.
