Do you find that you sometimes have random days where you just have very low energy? To specificly describe these days: you feel very tired not really so much sleepy tired but just physically and mentally tired- everything feels like a huge effort like it's way more work then it normally should feel. It's hard to start something. You pretty much want to do nothing but lay in bed with a bag of chips and dip and watch netflix. Thank god I have that option right now! :D Just got off of work but it was not an easy day to say the least because today was one of those days. Sometimes these days are caused by lack of sleep, other times eating poor food (this is probably the case today because I partied yesterday for the holiday indulging on snacks) but other times they just seem to happen for no reason at all and they seem to happen frequently. Do you get these kind of days often?

when I worked 13+ hour days for the uncivil service, it totally drained my energy reserves, and on my days off I just recovered, not having the energy to do much of anything.

In my case, cold days. If not, just lack of sleep. But mostly the former and it's starting to bug me out.

I'm taking my current summer class seriously, but the place itself...

I had one of those today. It was due to my missing an entire 90 minute sleep cycle last night. Ugh. :)

Those kinds of days seem to be related to my blood sugar levels, shifting too high or too low. I am super-sensitive to foods with high hidden sugar.

I have had a few diabetic blood tests lately (Hbac1) which place me just under the highest acceptable limit. However what they don't factor in is that this test - regarded as the gold standard now, it's cheaper than a glucose tolerance test - is that the results aren't a reliable for people who have chronic anaemia (especially older people). Being in both of those groups, it's an issue I have to be mindful of.

When the levels get too high I fall into a deep sleep suddenly, and when they are too low or crash suddenly, I get very shaky and mentally lose clear focus.

It seems to me that many of us on the spectrum have very sensitive/highly reactive endocrine and immune systems, and the emphasis on the social aspects by 'ASD experts' tend to obscure the physical issues.

my energy levels improved when I started burning fat rather than glucose, for energy. still need some glucose [wherever it comes from] to make my brain work right enough.

How do you do that? Cardio?

first off, I eat a low-carb diet [no refined carbs], then I do my exercise [biking up and down hills, an informal method of interval training] before I eat my first meal of the day. that forces my body into ketosis [fat burning]. to avoid kidney stress, I also have to drink lots of water. I know it works because my clothes fit loosely on me, the scale has gone down, my visceral fat has notably shrunk [thinner] and my skin is more loose [not great to look at, a bit wrinkly].

Thanks. That was very educational. Do you drink coffee? I feel like I can't do anything until I have had a cup of coffee.

I don't drink coffee but when I sag later in the day I take a no-doz or two [caffeine pills]. I just try above all to get plenty of sleep, 8 hours or so. I generally avoid napping unless the no-doz doesn't work, as it is too easy for me to just fall asleep for several hours and then be awake all night. I am a natural night-owl as it is.

I'm a night-owl, also. Life is so much easier working an evening shift as opposed to working days. Why not give in to your circadian rhythm?

Yes. At the moment I seem fragile. Energy levels also seem to relate to how many partial shutdowns or stress I have per day or week etc.
