It depends upon the job and the employer. Most of my education has nothing to do with the job I have now. I did take some courses over the years in computers, welding and machining that has some relevance to my current job. I have an associates and a bachelors in liberal arts and work as a mechanical engineer. My work is so proprietary in nature that there is no way you could learn any of it in school. My employer wants people who are creative and can think out of the box and be organized enough to make it all happen.
