Well, it's not just a gay beach, but part of it is.

I'd never been there in my life until 6 days ago.. and now it's been 6 days in a row lol.

It's no wonder my friends & coworkers (gay, straight, male, female) all rave about it being the best beach in Vancouver.. and one Australian coworker says Wreck is his "favourite place on the planet!"

The natural surroundings are almost surreal they're so awesome. Clean water, clean beach, rainforest all along the hills/cliffs beside the beach, mountain views out across the water, and the best sunset view around. Some of the trails along the beach make you wonder if you're really only a few hundred feet from a University campus of 60,000 people or if you're on some remote tropical island. Just stunningly beautiful.

It's pretty big, too. The main beach where ~95% of the people are is hundreds of meters long.. and the entire beach stretches more than 6Km. From the main trail, way to the left is the gay beach, way to the right is where swingers/heteros hookup.

FYI, nope, I haven't hooked up with any random strangers from the beach lol not exactly my style.. but wow are there ever some very sexually open people there. In some areas you pretty much stumble upon live action porn sets - but you have to intentionally walk to/near those areas, the main beach is entirely family friendly.

Anyways, gorgeous place.. but also the most amazing group of eclectic people partying on the beach. Hippies, nudists, university kids, families & kids, tattooed/pierced people, people playing music, drum circles, dancers, frisbee/various sports, skim boarding, the odd jetski or boat out, vendors selling food & funky silk wraps, people wandering around selling cold beers, boozey freezies, cigarettes, mushroom chocolates, people doing yoga or meditating.. and a tradition of hooting/cheering at the sun just as it sets behind a mountain across the water. It's like a carnival of sorts, populated by the Wreck tribe lol - like a micro burning man sort of scene & vibe, especially on weekends.

There were probably a couple thousand people the weekend, but the main beach isn't nearly as busy during the week - which is better in the peace and quiet and solitude sense. Apparently the gay beach (which isn't just a hookup site, there are guys that just hangout & suntan there, couples, friends etc just to be at that spot, or to feel more comfortable than on the main beach, or to avoid crowds etc) is busy pretty much every night of the week so long as the weather is nice. lol figures, bunch of horny guys I guess. I'm no prude, but the whole idea of hooking up with people without any sort of communication about std's/hiv status etc just isn't my thing at all. But it definitely made for some interesting scenery/people watching when I ventured down to that end of the beach for a while.

The main beach is extremely gay friendly, anyways - just not a hookup spot, and more crowded. There must have been 200-300 gay guys on the main beach on the weekend.. including a bunch of underwear models hanging out in the sun for the day. Absolutely fantastic almost anything goes completely chill vibe non judgemental place, for sure. This Summer, if I'm not going kiteboarding and don't have any other obligations, I'll be soaking up the sun at Wreck and just enjoying staring around at forest, ocean, mountains, sunset..

>Sigh< I have nothing like that around here. I have Lake Erie, the lake that caught on fire.

I am pretty blessed to live where I do.. there are countless amazing places to explore around here.

I ended up seeing 10 sunsets in a row at Wreck. 8) So many chill people.. locals, tourists etc. So many cool conversations. So many beautiful people - some of them on the outside, others more so by their vibe. I forgot my wallet one day and felt like having a cold beer, so my naked hippie chick bartender hooked me up with one on credit - lol so cool and funny to have a tab at the beach with my naked bartender.

NSFW due to nudity, but here's google image search results for Wreck beach so you get a bit of an idea of what sort of magic this place looks like: https://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&site ... aQ#imgrc=_

If I can avoid the radical nudism and beeline for the naked hippie chick bartenders with the shroom chocolates sign me up. This reads like one of the funniest things I could ever study via satellite analysis.

 It's pretty much impossible to avoid seeing nude people there, but nudity isn't required. It's clothing optional. It's probably about 50/50 clothed vs nude. Apparently it used to be a lot higher nude %, and fewer people, but as the popularity of the place has increased the ratio has changed.

It's one of those things you'll have to study live in person via your own "Joe Rogan Experience" enhanced senses.. :D

That sounds awesome! My few experiences with nude beaches were really quiet and laid-back. The active positive vibe you describe seems a fun change.

Went again yesterday and had a great time!

Just happened to meet one of my coworkers friends at the beach by chance, then settled my tab with the naked hippy chick, and happened across a singing minstrel on the stairs who was playing some chill guitar licks for his friends. Had some super cool conversation etc.

This place.. is just awesome! :D

Had another few awesome evenings there... people, music, sunsets.. met the Fairy Prince, Minstrel of the Fairy Court, who asked me where I was from and then told me he thought I looked like a Knight from Lichtenstein & then referred to me as Sir Richard. Ha! So cool since I love that movie.

Chilled with coworkers, randomly met some of their friends on evenings they weren't around, got word passed along through coworkers about some guy that was interested in me.. cool guy to hang out with, but not my type.

Last night was chill - there was a floatilla of party boats playing music & I went for a swim and just listened 8) then just as I was leaving to make it to home depot before they closed paramedics were coming down the stairs and firefighters were at the top.. so I asked if someone overindulged and they said a skimboarder had dislocated his shoulder and the coast guard was on their way with the hovercraft to take him away. Kinda wish I'd seen it again, but I did get to see the hovercraft last week anyways.

Not sure I mentioned it, but I saw a beaver walk out of the ocean and across the beach a few weeks ago.. was pretty cool. Must have floated down on a log boom or something.

But a couple nights ago was the best ever.. met an amazing human being. Very good looking guy, fit, blonde, smart - elextrical engineer, & just exuded positive energy... only a couple problems: 1) dunno his age - but that rule might have to be broken lol 2) not sure if he's gay or straight (doesn't even matter, I'd just wanna know this guy anyways) BUT since I Needed to know more about him I created the perfect professional scenario to get him to give me his phone number ;) in order for me to put him in touch with my friend about a potential electronic engineering project for his business. I'm looking forward to arranging a meeting between them sometime and attending to interpret (my friend is deaf) & maaaaybe get to know this guy a bit better.. would be nice.

I have met SO many cool people there!

Engineers, health care workers, homeless people, drag queens, models, students, teachers.. everybody! Such an amazing mix of people who truly appreciate being in the most beautiful surroundings on the face of the earth! Such a good vibe it's surreal.

I've made tons of beach friends, driven some people home or to the train, made connections to help out with my charity fundraiser pride party project, gotten contact info from people my friend may be interested in hiring, gone for beers at the university with some people after the beach closed, stuck around for campfires, partied, had super cool conversations, ran into a few coworkers, other friends, friends of friends.. such an amazingly magical and magnetic place it's hard to believe it even exists for real sometimes. 8)
