I feel like my therapist is just phoning it in, and I'm doing some of the same because of the futility of making myself understood. I unintentionally flipped out on my boss because of a schedule change/ lack of communication, and vented a bit. This is what I heard back.

"Next time, tell yourself it's not worth the argument."
I can't. I have to remove myself from the situation and calm down to think clearly.

"Your boss doesn't owe you explanations."
I f#:king know that.

"You are overreacting due to childhood trauma."
Whatever. I'm not completely dismissing that statement, but it's not helpful.

He specializes in anxiety issues, so I know everything is filtered to that framework. His advice just touched off a big nerve. Accept your peon status. Don't question authority. Your actions are self absorbed, and overentitled.

That was the subtext I took away from it anyway. The only reason I go is to stay on my medication, which is helpful. Nothing personal against the guy, but I've seen a plethora of therapists over the years. The only thing good I've gotten out of them is my diagnosis (which they didn't even f##king tell me about since I was juvenile). The A-who-shall-not-be-named.

Rant over...for now anyway.....

If you could do that, you wouldn't need therapy. He sounds like a tool and I'm sorry it's pretty worthless right now. To me, the point of a therapist is to be a neutral sounding board who can point me in the right direction while I work out my issues, not someone who spouts useless platitudes.
I hope you're able to find someone better.
Good luck and stay safe.

Anyone can spout the sort of silly platitudes your "therapist" comes out with.

Shame you have to stay with him for yer meds.

I would not find help in what your therapist is saying.

Good therapists challenge the patient and have them figure out the solutions themselves.

Bad therapists rely on patronizing slogans.

Yeah, at least it's not just me being "therapy resistant". I only go every other month now, so I'll deal.

Thanks for the input. :)

I've never gotten much useful out of my therapists. Drugs have done a lot better for me over all. I really do feel like the basic non prescribing therapist/counselors are pretty useless and just doing a cut and paste out of a text book and counting the minutes until your session is over and not much else.

I want to be wrong about that and hopefully my new therapist will break the mold but I very much doubt it.
