So I just got this thing called the Diva Cup. It's a menstrual cup, kind of like a diaphragm only it works in reverse. It may sound pretty gross, but I got one it's it has completely revolutionized my period. It's not messy if you know what you're doing. Does anyone else use one of these? If so what has your experience been with it?

No more non-eco-friendly waste, tampon strings, bleeding through, odor, changing every few hours etc. It creates a seal too so it pretty much eliminates any kind of menstrual odor at all. I can't even feel that it's in, and I can wear it for like 12 hours with no worries.

I just can't believe I've never heard of such a thing.

I have one. It was totally rad for my first few periods, then I found I couldn't figure out how to wear it without pain/pushing on my bladder. And it would leak almost every day! As i'm sure you can tell, diva cup leaks are quite serious. After the 3rd or so leak I just gave up. bleh!

Maybe this is TMI but I think my insides changed shape or something. I'm doing cloth pads now, love it.

Ahh yeah I had mine leak before (in the grocery store actually, it was horrible), but I didn't put it in right.

I'm glad you found what works for you! I've thought about doing cloth/natural non-disposables, but I haven't really branched out that far other than the menstrual cup. I don't think I can handle the external messiness of it all.

I have a similar thing called a Lunette cup. Unlike the Diva cup, Lunette comes in different colors. I love mine though since I started on Nexplanon birth control I haven't menstruated so I don't need to use it anymore. In my opinion a menstrual cup is the next best thing to not having a period at all. Different brands have different shapes/stiffness. I read a lot of reviews and decided that Lunette was best for me.

I have a moon cup and I love it. Tampons were such a huge trauma every month, so messy and drying and then having to constantly change the bathroom bin. So indiscreet. So glad I found menstrual cups, I'm never going back!! Might get a few cloth pads as a safety net but tbh I've had no leaks.

There is a huge variety of menstrual cups out there, that come in varying degrees of hardness/softness, and varying shapes. I haven't had the chance to try any yet, but I recommend checking out Precious Stars Pads on YouTube. She's reviewed pretty much every famous cup brand out there!

I can't use them in my circumstances (vaginismus), but they seem like a good idea for many people. It'd be hard to deal with them in a public restroom, but it seems you can wear them for many hours at a time, so you don't need to worry about it in most cases.

It always weirds me out when people call them gross--Don't they seem way less gross than the alternatives? Especially pads? (I use pads.)

I've heard there are disposable menstrual cups too.

If was in a situation where I had to change my cup in public, I would take a spare clean one with me, as I'd be afraid of my cup collecting germs whilst carrying it around.

I think women should not be feeling gross about their periods, but that's a story for another day.

I had vaginismus but I cured it with a vaginal dilator. Vaginismus caused me a lot of psychological trauma and if it's anything like that for you you have my sympathies.

But yeah you can wear the cups for up to 12 hours and they hold a lot so unless your period is very heavy changing it in public is probably less of an issue.

I've heard of a new type of cup that can be rolled as thin as a tampon. Presumably that would make insertion a bit easier. http://www.intimina.com/en/lily_cups

I used something similar several years ago, called The Keeper. I liked it at first, but got tired of it after awhile. I didn't like the suction it put on my cervix. I wouldn't even think of wearing one now. I have bladder pain/spasms sometimes and I think it would trigger that.
