I noticed that the attached thread in PPR just got locked today. It would be fine if whoever did so brought up the specific concern and addressed it. The trouble is no one knows who did it, why, etc..

Ahhh. I'm starting to see how things are working around here.
In that case my apologies if I might have been a little insensitive or hurt your feelings in some way.
That and... probably better if you don't lock this thread too.

Maybe its because you came across as quite abrupt and dismissed people from being able to dream up what they want?
Do you even know what any of that means?
Here is another reason why I never go here either. It’s not safe. Explain that. Or maybe.. lock it?

It would be great to have a thread on the physical and neurological health ramifications of using the subjective proactively vs. treating it like a necessary contaminant or artifact that your five senses have to wade through on their way out. However we're on the topic of threads getting locked without mods claiming responsibility or stating their reason.
I don't feel like that's a good direction for the site to go in, especially when PPR is already something like brawling with a certain etiquette and when the moderators themselves are often part-and-partisan in the debates. In that situation moderators would want to, if nothing else at least for image and appearance, put a closing blurb on the thread when they lock it to spell out the infraction properly. Without that it starts looking like it's happening either haphazardly or along certain peoples' whims. If they need to have it locked for legitimate reasons but feel too close to the fray they may feel more comfortable having someone else lock it if the concern comes out that someone will cry foul.
I was just surprised to see that without anyone saying anything and when I looked further down the thread at some of the other locked posts I noticed that it's a corner that's getting cut with a fair amount of frequency.

It would be helpful for reasons for locking threads would be given publicly or privately. If the situation calls for a private notification a public notification should be made that the matter is being handled privately.

It would be even more helpful if members would:
• Refrain from posting offensive language, comments, video, or images.
• Refrain from posting racist, sexist, homophobic language.
• Refrain from posting behavior intended to provoke or belittle other members.
• Refrain from posting violent or sexually demeaning content.
• Refrain from posting discussions of sexual fetishes.
• Refrain from posting discussions of excretory function.
• Refrain from posting posting graphic images or videos of people or animals being harmed.
• Refrain from posting personal attacks.
• Refrain from posting includes insinuation, ridicule and personal insults, regardless of whether direct or indirect.
• Refrain from posting copyrighted material.
• Refrain from posting serial codes.
• Refrain from posting and posts made to promote a website, group or product, particularly if made repeatedly and without other participation in the WP community (i.e., "Spamming").
• Refrain from posting discussions of locked topics.
• Refrain from posting discussions of banned members and why they were banned.
• Refrain from posting anything else that purposely causes conflict with other members (i.e., "Trolling").
• Refrain from posting duplicate threads.
• Refrain from posting spamming the forums with affiliate links.
• Refrain from re-posting locked or deleted posts or threads.
• Refrain from posting personal attacks against people on other sites.
Further, it is worth mentioning that the owners of WrongPlanet reserve the right to delete, edit, move, or lock any thread for any reason.

While some of the above is straightforward some of the above will not be understood by some with ASD. Even without the Autism factor what constitutes some of the above varies greatly by website. So saying this language violates this WP policy is a good thing.

I read that thread and I still didn't see any of those being done in that thread so I don't know why it was locked. Is that considered spam or what? Is posting that HP video considered posting copyrights? People do it here all the time and those threads don't get locked.

"Remember, this is a family friendly community"
Most of the other mods are much older and female, so I can see what you mean, and they have less communication difficulties than us, but got a chip on their shoulder and make putting head and shoulders above the rest a tougher chore, when they passively cast people out of being true.
I actually get the feeling that a bat and a ball has been placed in the centre of a ring and if you get upset and retaliate back, you’re given the Trunchball treatment.
Unlike the other faults previously mentioned, you’ve obviously put a case across that sounds plausible, but whilst we/I know threads are rotated for various reasons and others are not, it is more down to the outer framework and not the core where we relapse these issues.(rather than deal with them).
If anything is being violated, it is through not having a simple agreement on the terms that all members must adhere to, whether they’re marked disabled or not. If you don’t make yourself comply, then make yourself leave. That’s easier said than done. If you’re having a hard day, do you moan about it, hold a grudge or begrudge other people? If you’re careful, you don’t drown in defeat.
The fact here is, if people can hack through each thread and post consistently bad or negative comments, then they’re capable of much worse.
I’ve witnessed it all before, when I was last a member and matters relating to the forming and posting of threads were a lot harder to ignore. As the new site has brought ‘new light’ to the forum, it has dissuaded some individuals from making a snap reappearance and have instead ploughed through their own backyard to find answers there.(should picking bones become more a fear factor).
I was recently informed by a random moderator, that on a forum this shape and size, you can’t go through everyone’s mishaps. Well, Cornflake did. (Even with harsh tactics instilled). The message he gave out to other members is, you can’t go around doing this, you’ve been told twice before, now you’re banned. Trouble with that is that everyone develops a bad impression of each other and fears "bugging" them again.
This often included some innocent members unfortunately. How can there be a just reward there then?
I think there is a difference between making a general comment and calling it an opinion, sharing useful and helpful information or conspiring to make that person look even worse.
I’m noticing a rise in the sexual nature of most of the threads in L&D and random sectors where most if not all of the threads are governed by various male members. Who gave the message out that its “ok” to demean and denounce women who can’t find their way in life and are having a hard time not of choice.
There’s talk of feminism etc, I don’t see any.
Oh well, what you can’t poach in person you won’t have a hard time doing on a forum.
Sorry for the blunt choice of words.
Oh, and I'm on the threshold of another massive tidal wave, Tsunami, that I might need to avoid. Soon.
Bye Tech:)

I'm fine with the thread staying locked, it's just a delicate balance over there and I don't want anyone getting accused of abusing their authority.

I didn't lock that particular thread, but, speaking for myself, the only time I may not post an explanation for locking a thread is when I'm on my phone, and don't have the ability to write a detailed message.
Please feel free to PM a moderator if you have questions concerning a particular locked thread.
Thank you.

Not even the tiniest bit of any of that means, though, that they shouldnt explain it a bit. Even if it takes a bit of effort to do so. There's a reason why moderators on most forums do so. It prevents confusion, and prevents people from snapping at the mods later, or simply growing incensed at the forum in general over time. Both of which are nothing but trouble.
Besides: It's not JUST about explaining it to the person that broke the rules. It's about explaining it so that EVERYONE in the thread understands it.
I mean, really. This site has enough screwball problems as it is. I dont exactly use it much myself, most of the time only posting in the gaming section (which seems to be one of the slowest parts of the overall forum) as, honestly, I dont like this place very much. And stuff like this is part of why. I stay here because A: there's no real alternative to this place, and B: there's mostly nice people here instead of piles of trolls.
