hi there . think title is self explanitory ( maybe a bit odd though). think best under frendship
Been thinking of this for a while ,

THE IDEA IS , to put it into rules
We could chat making sure that ...
(1) one does not go off topic or sidetracked in an "odd" way
(2) one keeps subject fairly general (no indepth talk, no monologues)
(3) one is encouraged to exagurate to make answer more intresting ( something I notice a lot of people do ,. often I understand why they do this and aprove and othertimes fine this a bore esp if over the top ).
(4) one goes out of ones way to encourage others to talk and to express an intrest in what has been said.

(5) one tries to take "apropriate" turns in the conversation . mostly covered by (1) but not totaly.

I hope you get picture . A kind of natter which if done well I must say I do enjoy in real life.

To get a little carried away with this , as a possible help I add. Possible topics --

a) something that has happened to u recently Move house, change work shifts ,watched good film
b) a good general purpose moan at life .. not too serious
c) sports events (but I will opt out of this one)
d) meaningless waffle (SERIOUS HERE :) ) ETC ETC

======================================

FINALY since this is a chat between possibly tens or hundreeds .... maybe best to pretend you are coauther on a script that is a back and forth chat between 2 people . ALTERNATIVLY start with (ME) and interject as a new person...
======================================
ok.

( hopefully taking the idea of chat as a game or idle pastime to new levels :)

:) )

======================================

start of script--- ( set in works canteen of a large department store. Person2 HAS JUST SAT DOWN on lone table . PESON1 enters hovering by him waiting to sit down somewhere ..)

PERSON1 : Hi there, how are you.I saw you earlier The new starter .. yes ....

slight rethink ...

Ok relax "rules" that I stated on "how to chat".Only realy there to give an idea of what I am on about. or for anyone who realy loves rules.

Just chat as you would if you were tring to be extra sociable and not yet ready to reveal the more idosincratic side of your personality :) (think u may know what i mean. Apoligies for spelling or if that came out sounding wrong ).

Still like the idea of writting as if a script though .. just for the flow to make ok sense ... but would be good also for people to jump in as yourself (or probably more acuratly as a new charictor u have invented) when u want ( -after all ,one would end up contridicting oneself or having a multiple personality disorder :) .. if only 2 people involved in the set up.)

( PS Anyone prefer a different starting script????A works situation seams the commonest setup for chat in real life, for me.
OR a no script free for all - chat away but do just chat sociably ??? )

.
.... Being decisive was never my strong point
..... and to widen things out . anyone ever thought about scriptwriting and would it include an aspie or someone a bit out of sync with the general mood of things (realise this is more like a seperate thread though. Btw this is not a ploy for others to write me a script )

PPS If some of my postings sound either patronising , mocking , offensive ETC that is not indended. If had more time and patients I would most likly say a few things differently (or please give me a break - have re-edited several times!!)

Repeating start of chat .. modified for attempt at realisum....
======================================

START OF SCRIPT --- ( set in works canteen of a large department store. Person2 HAS JUST SAT DOWN on lone table . PESON1 enters hovering by him waiting to sit down somewhere ..)

PERSON1 : Hi there, how are you.I saw you earlier on ,at clock in....

((ok i know am returning to it as a script.... have confused myself - not hard . But as said U can chat away or be in script mode... is it me or do others like idea of people being in modes like word processors or computers))

Why on earth would I want to talk like an NT? 8O

I find a lot of the things that they "small-talk" about to be just petty and plain boring. I really don't mind spaces of comfortable silence, rather than being filled with such chat. I'm there to talk, and if the person wants to talk they can. But I prefer they not fill it up with this kind of chatter.

btw I realy do understand the point . But MOST chat is not totaly content free or full of just rumers or bitchyness (or am I missing something). Think it is good to join in some of the time . only discovered the need / knack recently. How else do u find out if a college had a hard time over some thing recently .. some thing people do drop in casualy in chat. Granted a lot of stuff is intentinaly mildly manipulitive and misleading not to say unintentionaly quite boring but u do get some useful stuff in my opinion and a bit of social bonding. Applies mostlIy to chats in small groups i think... can lead on to one to one more serious conversation.... like fixing computers :) ,my intrest...

Whenever a friend is having a hard time with something, it's usually quite obvious....I would rather have my friends talk about what they want to talk about, what they are interested in and what applies to them at the moment. The conversations I observed between NT's in school were nothing like that...it was weird, I can't explain it. It was like they'd put up a different fake act in front of each of their different friends, depending on how this person would want them to act or speak. No one ever seemed to really say what was on their mind, or be themselves. I spent a lot of time in the Senior Lounge just watching people, and it was interesting to see how people changed depending on the company. It's like they're acting. I am not willing to do that.

NT Lunchroom Encounter (Adapted from above)

Set in lunchroom of a large department store.
DUDE #1 has just sat at a table alone. DUDE #2 enters hovering by him waiting to sit down somewhere...

Actual NT thoughts follow dialog in parentheses.

DUDE #1: Wasssup.

DUDE #2: Wassup.

DUDE #1: I saw you rushing in the door to clock in. Were you late or what? (I hope you were late so it will make me look better by comparison)

I have a hard time getting here on time. You? (I hope you say yes so I can hold it against you in the future)

DUDE #2: Nah, I just made it though (Why is this dude so worried about my punctuality? I can use against him the fact that he has a hard time getting here)

DUDE #2: Cool shoes. Where'd you get them? (Those shoes make you look gay and probably cost a fortune)

DUDE #1(still seated): Thanks.U think so. Just something I bought in a hurry.(These shoes make me look so awesome. They cost half my last paycheck. You wish you had them.)

Sit down dude, you're makin' me nervous. (Sit down dude, you're makin' me nervous.)

To be continued...?

One of my favorite 'lines' that I had used on me, after I had already begun to bore a poor little NAS chicky, was "What's your favorite number, or color, or something?" I just started cracking up, and trying to explain the hilarity of her idiocy. Well, THAT didn't work too well.

There is so much I do not understand. Mostly, I don't care. No, wait, I profoundly don't care. RE: NTs mysterious social (lack of) talking patterns.......

1) Why does it seemingly go so quickly (& therefore I assume naturally) for them? If I should ever have something to contribute (don't laugh) how would I edge it in? Too fast....I respond slowly.

2) Why are they so repetitive over time? Further, this reinforces they have a really poor memory - but there is something else at play, I'm sure. I mean by this: why does co-worker X relate the same version of her husband, M, to co-worker Y, and vice versa, over and over^(1/0)? I'm passively listening and could write a personality profile right now of both co-worker X & co-worker Y's respective husbands. Why do they feel the need to elaborate? Incidentally, I've never met either of these husbands but I know some quite intimate details about them!
2.5) If they're married, then a safe assumption is they're having sex. So, then, why is not ok if I happen to mention something of a sexual natutre, in a discrete manner? We're all adults. Oh, wait, I think I know.....sex taboo. But, at the same time, sex is fun and I know even NT's sometimes think about sex (yes)?

3) If I accidentally say something, because I'm trying hard, and make a mistake (I can be really stupid) how can one "untalk" out of it? For instance, during lunch break time, co-worker Y was talking about recipes (she likes to cook). Plus, earlier Y and another were talking about Internet stuff. The previous evening I was looking up something and drifted onto a site about cannibalism. Apparently humans go well with sage. Hint: This is does not make for good NT banter! Y was not amused, perhaps even physically nauseous. I am (and was) sorry, which I expressed. Still, how do I undo it? Admittedly, I think the sage human marinade recipe was wildly funny, but I won't reveal that.
My point, why are NTs often so rigid? And not forgiving?

I am very shy. Please don't be harsh.....just advice. Don't be meant to me or tease me. I am very sensitive. Does anyone know why though (above 3)?

Oh my god.
If that's what they mean everytime they talk, then I'm going to go crazy with paranoia.
You sure they don't mean exactly what they say? Isn't it the body language?
