I'e been thinking about special interests lately. Do you magnificent people know of any cases where a spectrumite's special interest was changed intentionally? I'd include slight shifts, too... like intentionally switching that laser-like focus from, say, watching formula one racing to an intense drive to get into tech school (so you could become a formula one mechanic later on).

Is this a thing that happens?

I change my special interests intentionally based on practical needs. My special interest consists of born-interests such as art, music, science, math and deliberately-developed-interests such as economics, electrical things, fixing broken things, making clothes, foreign languages…I found all of these activities are playful enough to immerse myself fully into quite for a long time(over three months each). I switch my interests whenever I need to know about certain new things. From A to Z.

Mine have changed over time for various reasons, though some have been resurrected over time such as my interest in Lego. I think the only reason it ever went away was because I convinced myself that I was too old to play with Lego. I now realize that is bs, and no one is too old to play with Lego.

You know I've collected Lego sets for years. Although these couple of years I'm more focusing on collecting them rather than playing with them, I used to be seriously into making cars with Legos. They are very very good for your creation. You can make robots with them. As soon as I have enough time, I'll start playing with them again, they require serious commitment. They are most complex toys in the world!!

Yeah Lego is awesome, it lets your imagination run wild. It deserves to be played with, not just sit in boxes =)

I don't know how many would be interested in this, but the biggest Meccano bridge in the world has been built, I mention this as Lego has been mentioned in this thread and I thought it was topical.

In terms of special interests I do think they can be changed as people get older.
