Do you think Chris Chan is helping autistic people in a way?

He's making society feel sorry for us, encouraging people to treat us special because of our conditions that we SUFFER from. We deserve special treatment, or a cure. Otherwise life today is hell for people on the spectrum.

I like him in a way because I hate my life with Asperger's and wish for a cure every day.

No! So many people point to him to say 'Aspergers = as*hole troll'. People are not feeling sorry for him. They are making fun of him and reviling him.

Plus, I don't want pity. I want support. I want someone who believes I can do well if I'm given the right help, and then makes the effort to give me that help, not someone who thinks I'm a poor pitiful creature doomed to misery by my genetic make-up.

I'm just now learning about this Chris Chan, more like IT. I really at a loss here for this IT. I don't want a cure, because it will destroy all that I am. I'm not willing to be threatened with this cure or have to make a choice between my creative spirit or forced to get this cure and loose my identity to replace autism with something worse like depression for what I lost. Not all of us want the cure nor will I in anyway do anything to promote its creation. Chris Chan as I have learned is a product of his parents lack of knowledge and them not seeking any emotional support for him.

I don't know. Chris Chan is a bit odd, even for somebody on the spectrum. I feel that he may be playing it up just to be the centre of attention. Even if he is genuine, for people to think we're like him is only a negative thing; he's received a lot of bad press and I heard he's been accused of one or two cases of sexual harassment.

I don't mean to attack the guy but we definitely need a better figurehead; Temple Grandin he is not.

He's basically a meme right now. Well, he used to be at the least. But people make fun of autistic people and autism itself all the time. It's just something I personally shrug off or even laugh at myself at times.

All great points.

I don't suffer from my Asperger's and don't need to be cured. The more I see how neurotypicals treat each other, the more I prefer being what I am. I hate the negative image Chris Chan is giving us, as if the neurotypical society weren't doing that enough as it is. We need a cure for stupidity and ignorance, the claims that we need to be pitied, repaired, or cured. :x

I've had people go from cold/mean to me to pitying and condescending. Can't tell you that one is better from the other.

I always believed Chris Chan was just a troll and liked doing all this for attention or he would have stopped because no one can possible be that oblivious. Now I think he just has a low IQ because I don't think anyone like him can be this dense unless they are really stupid and I mean lack of intelligence. Even other aspies don't act like him so I thought he was just a troll.

I just immediately assumed that he was severely autistic, but autism can't be treated like it exempts all behaviour; there are boundaries, even for those with more significant disabilities. It's not like having autism excludes you from the rules.

One of my concerns about it is that I feel that people can take advantage of it and act however they like, not out of ignorance but through a sense that they're going to get away with it. To this day, there are people that have rules clearly explained multiple times to them but still break them, and I wonder if that really is a symptom of the disability or something more directly malicious.

No I think he is just a troll, who plays up his autism if he even has autism(not sure)or whatever it is wrong with him and acts nasty to get attention. Like he knows exactly what he is doing, its not his autism that makes him act like that.

Also sure things in my life could be better and the ASD causes some difficulties but its not hell, I am doing fine right now.

I agree with the idea of a cure because that would have helped me in childhood. But would I take it now? Maybe I would, maybe I wouldn't. It won't change the past though. Then again, maybe it's for the best that I not take it. Who knows, maybe I might pull revenge on everyone who ever shamed me with my new-found confidence like the lead character of Insatiable?
