Any comments about Syd Barrett ?
I have read that he was an Aspie , diagnosed .
I looked one biography of him , but , posters on Amazon.Com really ripped it apart...

Where did you read that? That would be interesting to see.

It would make perfect sense, given his life. As for people ripping the bio apart, what do they have to compare it to? He was pretty secretive, and a streetperson for a time. I'd go ahead and read the bio. There isn't a whole lot out there on Syd.

i dont know if he did too much drugs or if he was truly an aspie
i think it was a combination of both
articles seem to exagerate both sides

There's a link to an interview with his sister which was conducted after his death, where his sister speculated that Syd had a form of autism. I don't think he was ever officially diagnosed, though.

I feel terrible that he died so young, just one year before they cured the diabetes that killed him. Damn!

I used to work in the mental health ward in which he spent some time, many years before. Some of the patients remembered him.

It seems more like a speculation than anything else.

It's thought that Syd Barrett had AS but he was never diagnosed. Several people who knew him point to his speech/behaviour patterns as rendering it a distinct possibility. But so much about his life is disputed. There are those who maintain his LSD intake was less than has been documented and mythologised. A contemporary of Syd's, Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, took LSD once and it changed him forever. But he smoked cannabis every day & in large quantities, so that may have been a contribution towards his deterioration. Even then there are those who say that he was far more 'together' than he wanted people to believe at times. Personally I just love his music & that's it. I never knew him and can only speculate. It may sound callous but, as a long-term fan of his music, part of me was glad when he died. Only then would he ever get any peace, as there would always be some joker wanting to knock on his door so they could boast to their mates about the day they met Syd Barrett. Also, people who never heard of him would get to do so and his music would reach even more people. Sad but true. What do you think?

Irecall the sister saying something like " Syd didn't have any mental problems " (Presumably, she inherited his royalties and rights?) immediately after the , BUT, later on I saw a quote " Syd was mad " by her...Even though I picture saying that in a bit of a " light " manner , I think she might've downplayed saying he had any mental problems immediately after his so that the more tabloid-y of the British media wouldn't quote her saying that, then, later on,be a little more straight-forward...

Yes, I think it is possible that Syd had Asperger's. He was never the same after his famous first acid trip. However, shaving your hair and eyebrows off and turning up to a recording session unannounced is insane.
