im a senior in high school, 17 and won't be turning 18 until the summer. I need a job for gas money and to be responsible and save money for moving out for college next fall (i'll actually probably spend it irresponsibly on hobbies but whatever). So, what are typical teen jobs? Fast food, retail, and like half of my friends (?) work at a customer service call center. Food is just a huge no, and i've been having increasing problems in social situations and dealing with stupidity. I would 100% be on the night shift at the grocery store but when theres not very many people working they don't like having minors because they can't sell beer or cigarettes. Plus nowhere has said they're hiring except fast food places and that stupid call center. It's not even legal for me to work in my eventual career area (welding) yet because it's a "heavy industry"... So this has been Me Complaining, does anybody have any ideas?

Grocery and night shift are always hireing, even if they aren't advertising that fact.
Yes, they prefer adults, but as long as there are one or two there, minors can round out the shift, and are 'better than nothing', night shifts aren't that popular.

Just go to the store and flat out state that you want to apply for a night shift job: being that direct is a positive thing, since you are (well, appear) motivated enough to apply without prompt.

Check out Wal-Mart. They're open 24-7 and they do most of their restocking at night.

When I was your age, my first job was at a Safeway. I stocked groceries, bagged groceries, and helped customers via our carry out service. Sometimes when I'm grocery shopping and things are busy, I shift to the end of the conveyor belt and will bag my own groceries. The checker has never complained because if I wasn't doing this, SHE'D have to do it.

Also, I wouldn't completely rule out fast food. My nephew is neurotypical but large, awkward, and a low talker. A little Hodor-ish. He worked at McDonald's at "Sandwich Assembly" for a couple of years and really liked it. From what I understand, you're only responsible for a portion of the sandwich? Like you'd put the meat on the bun and do another thing but pass it to someone else to do the cold things? Anyway, he didn't have to deal with many people and wasn't responsible for very much. His pay went up pretty quickly too, if I recall.

I agree, fast food isn't a good idea and I can't handle it.

I just hate the idea of working as a teen - the actual range of different types of jobs you can get are so narrow, practically nearly every teen with a job is either a fast food worker or grocery worker.

My plan was to take up volunteer work first and 'ease my way' into a part-time or full-time job. I don't know if you would want to do that but I have the patience too.

I would say some custodial jobs may be ideal. Some people go into different buildings to clean up. It's a solitary job where you can work by yourself. You need transportation though.

Is the area where you live agricultural? Do you have any experience welding? Many farmers have need of welders for various repairs and/or projects. Established large businesses/factories may not want to hire you as a minor, but small business owners might. Per OSHA, as I understand it, as a 17 year old, the only industry you are legally restricted from would be mining. Of course, the OSH Act only sets the minimum standards. States are at a minimum required to adhere to these, but they do have the authority to set and enforce higher standards within their borders if they choose.

Try for a coutasy clerk job. Many grocerie stores hire minors for those. In fact I think they prefer minors for them because minors aren't able to suddenly leave this "kiddie position" for the mill like adults most likely would do. As a coutesy clerk you just push carts by hand, do carry outs, vacumm the hallway, stock a little, bag groceries and run go backs. It's a busy job and you will mostly be working by your self. You can work the evening shift but not the graveyard shift at your age. Take what you can get. 18 is less than twelves months away and then you can do the job you want.
