Hi
I'm probably going to be sacked for gross misconduct next week for making a stupid but serious mistake. I'm now really stressed. Has it happened to anyone here and how to do you cope?

thanks

As with anything, if its going to happen, it will happen, being stressed about it wont stop it happening, like the saying goes, "no use crying over spilt milk"
Unless of course you live in Saudi Arabia where your mistake will result in a beheading, then be stressed, by all means.

Can you say what the mistake was?

Yes. I was fired from 2 office jobs I worked at when I was 16. Women get chatty with each other and expect me to join them. When I was younger, I used to try and fit in, but chatting makes me very tired and unfocused. I really need to fully focus on what I'm doing -- I can't chat and work at the same time. I misfiled, forgot to answer the phone promptly/properly, and knocked things over. I would always do a good job on days they left me alone, but they would talk to me after several days of not messing up. Soon as I was pressured to interact again I would make mistakes. Office jobs just don't work out -- too much pressure to socialize.

I wasn't too upset about it, since I was thinking of quitting anyway. I hated working in an office. I never applied to work in an office again. I prefer working in a lab when it is raining or cold, and outdoors when it is sunny above 60F/15.6C.
