So I was going through Pinterest and found this from TEACHERS...hmmm sorry, I was deeply offended by it, but maybe that's just me. What do you think?

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Pro ... lls-695244

Here are some of the things that I found disgusting in one of the sheets:

Why Zombies Don't Have Friends

1. They have a hard time making gestures
3. Really poor eye contact
5. Zombies never change the tone of their voice
8. Zombies never remember to wash their clothes
10. It's hard to have a conversation with someone who only says "mmm brains"

Sorry, maybe I am just a bit too sensitive as they call it, but wow! To me you are basically telling kids that if they do this they DESERVE to not have friends, that they are like ZOMBIES? Really? That's therapy? Wow!

PS no, my son doesn't take such therapies, never will...his therapist is someone I respect and I am sure that I know exactly what she is teaching my son...if I don't like it, we discuss it

What do I think?

I think that I am tired of links to other websites that require me to become a member at those other websites before I can view the materials at those website and join the discussion here regarding those materials.

Are you trying to get us to join that other website, or are you actually trying to advertise the materials?

...you could also just get over it and move on...probably less fun than bitching, but probably healthier since you'd be in the "acceptance" phase.

I am offended by the term, Zombie.

I disagree with "curing" Asperger's. I think integration is better. Some of the traits of Asperger's make people with the condition unique.

Also, they are clearly insinuating having ASD implies you are a zombie. I think that is mean, this is also clearly written by a teacher whose knowledge regarding autism is limited to Wikipedia and Autism Speaks.

What do you mean by the underlined text? I thought Fnord was a highly respected and accepted member of Wrong Planet.

Not everyone respects me or accepts my opinions. Some members seem to prefer that I not be so quick to point out the flaws in other members' methods, reasoning, or data. Some members seem to think that critical thinking has no place in a social website. Others just don't like me because the mods have intervened against them on my behalf.

Fortunately, they also seem to be in the minority.

I have Asperger's but I do wash my clothes, make eye contact, and don't speak in a monotone voice. Maybe I don't really have Asperger's even though I was diagnosed with it and had poor peer relations and appeared withdrawn, confused, and disoriented as a teenager. I don't know if it's just a stupid stereotype or because I'm female and female aspies are often overlooked.

And I never say mmm, brains all the time. Who does? This teacher deserves a "wormy apple" award. I once saw a "golden apple" award on TV given to good teachers. I guess it's not real gold because that would definitely be much, much more than a teacher's salary and then they could retire.

My eye contact problems are pretty bad. I don't think there is a way to fix it. I just find it uncomfortable and I don't think I'll be able to change it. Then again, I haven't tried at all.

Perhaps it is a bit like taking small, non-lethal doses of poison to build up an immunity.

The underlined text means what it says, Fnord is bitching-- he know's there's nothing in the post against the rules thus it will not change therefore he will continue to wade through the same problem over and over again. Acceptance is one of the psychological stages of grief, accepting that things are the way they are and one doesn't have the power to change them-- it's a joke.

Fnord's social status is irrelevant to the discussion. Truth be told a few issues me and Fnord don't agree on at all, and we've had a rhetorical powder keg blow up between us. That doesn't mean I don't respect him or his opinion, just that we both have firm beliefs that don't always mesh. I also agree with him on large section of issues. My comment wasn't an attack, it was a tease. Like I said, he knows he's bitching about something that won't change, and I'm pointing out the comedy in that situation-- hence the term acceptance. I'm a poor humorist, but one doesn't get better unless they try.

Okay.

Not all things are mastered by practice-- suicide for example. <-- Sort of a joke

I'm very concerned that children can get the wrong impression about Autistic people.
It was very rude, stupid and unthoughtful for the writer to pick up those symptoms which could be real sufferings of Autistic people. What a stupidity.

I liked your math jokes in one of the joke threads much more than that one...I don't like the thought of twelve year olds even thinking about suicide, yes it's ageism, but it is what it is. :|

Thank you. What does :| mean? Is it neutral?

It wasn't really a joke. It was just a witty counter-example to a familiar expression.

Perhaps I shouldn't joke about suicide, it is not a laughing matter.

No, actually I have no idea who those people are...I found the link on Pinterest, but when I tried to post the Pinterest link it didn't work, so I just posted the link to the page...but you don't have to join to see it...if you look on the left hand side of the page you can do a preview by hovering your curser over the pages and see what I am talking about.

PS instead of being so rude, you really should've checked that first...it's pretty bad that you were so hateful in your words when I was actually trying to speak up about teachers calling autistics Zombies...but there you go...

The sad thing is that this site states this is to teach speech and social skills TO THOSE WITH AUTISM!! ! The comments from the teachers saying it is great makes me sick. I can't imagine my son being taught by any teacher this is what a Zombie acts like and because YOU do these things, well, that means you're like a Zombie...huh? What? :-(

Next time, use your critical thinking skills when you look at the website to figure out how to view what I stated without becoming a member, before bashing people.
