Since aspies have so many similar characteristics, are there any music genres that are favored by aspies?

Personally, I'm all about heavy metal.

Awesome. I love Scandinavian fantasy metal - Rhapsody, Nightwish, Luca Turilli, etc. But I also like weird atmospheric music like Enigma, the soundtracks to musicals (at the moment I'm obsessed with "The Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera), anime music, and the occasional pop song that I've found a way to translate so that the lyrics take on a whole new meaning. (Think "Strangers Like Me" from Tarzan as a spectrum song, or "The Animal Song" by Savage Garden.) And I'll probably get ripped on for it, but I love Yanni.

I have a bit of a thing about attempting to put music into genres generally - case in point: what exactly is "Heavy Metal" these days? AC/DC? Green Day? Black Sabbath? Slipknot? Led Zeppelin? Cradle Of Filth? Metallica? Van Halen? Poison? Aerosmith? Thin Lizzy? Rammstein? Creed? Fact is, you can make a claim for all these bands to be "Heavy Metal", but can anyone say they like them all, and all other stylistically wildly diverse quote-unquote "Metal" bands? I doubt it very much, so how can anyone claim to like "Heavy Metal" per se? You can get into sub-division of genre, but then I start to get really cross: "Yes, I'm really into Neo-garage-swamp-rock-jazz-funk-alt-house-country myself"

I was after the new "YOURCODENAMEIS:MILO" CD the other day (its really rather good btw - the best post-punk-industrial-progressive-metal-screamo CD I've heard so far this year ) - HMV had it under "pop/rock" and Virgin had it under "Metal"..... well, which is it? I had to buy the new "Fischerspooner" CD (the best techno-pop-beat-..... oh, never mind....) from the "dance" section for gawdssake..... :( I felt violated.... I nearly even touched several rap CDs when getting it.... *shudder* 8O

Anyway, sorry for hijacking your thread with a rant, but this whole deal ticks me off.... There's only 4 kinds of music: Good, bad, indifferent and rap (bad just doesn't cover it somehow......) I'd love to run a record shop..... "Excuse me, but where can I find the new 'Whitney Houston' CD, please?". "It's in the 'stinking, filthy, unlistenable c**p' section, love".... Ah... bliss...... :)

Very good point Tafkash. Personally I find the phase "heavy metal" meaningless in this day and age, as its veered off in so many diverse directions.

I thought Creed were really quite good, toe-tappin', boot skuffin' fun there, actually dunc.....

I think the term "Heavy Metal" has changed over the years. I think Metallica should be the standard for heavy metal. There's a lot heavier, but that's where you should draw the line beetween hard rock and metal.

We'll, that's just me. But AC/DC and Ozzy isn't heavy at all to me.

I like a little of everything

Rock/Alternative (This is pretty much most of what I like these days)
Pop (60s-2001)
Hip Hop (80s-2001)
Soft AC (Your Phil Collins, Celene Dion, Lovesongs, etc)
Classic Rock
Disco
Dance/Techno
Christian/Religious
Country
Classical
Jazz
Spanish
European

at least SOME of everything. But when it comes to current music, I prefer rock/alternative.

As for Metal, there are all types of Metal

Classic/Basic Metal (AC/DC, Metallica, Etc)

Death/Black Metal (any growling music with satanic lyrics)

Thrash Metal (Some Anthrax, Metallica, Slayer, etc)

Goth Metal

Christian Metal (Sounds funny, but its there)

Nu Metal (Slipknot, Korn, etc)

and so on

Easier for me to say what I don't like:

Rap
"My truck died, my dog died, my girl done run off with some other man, Momma, God Bless America, Jesus Loves Me, I got drunk, and now I'm in jail"
Hip-Hop
Hate Music (which, come to think of it, includes a lot of rap and pretty much all Death Metal that I've ever heard)

I think that's about it. Just about anything else is cool, depending on my mood.

I really, really love to listen to Japanese pop and Japanese rock music. All other types of music are just okay to me, but I can't stand rap and country music.

There are a lot of types of music I like, but one of the ones I most consistently like is country.

I like Thrash like old metallica songs, slayer and such

I also like In flames with theire Melodic metal.

One of my favorite bands is Kyuss which makes Stoner metal or desert rock. Qotsa also make that kind of music but i like Kyuss more.

I like QOTSA and Kyuss, but I haven't listened to much Kyuss properly. Fu Manchu are good. 8)
