Out of ordinary curiousity ...

In a vague sort of way, I've noticed that non-aspies tend to be both more tolerant and more open-minded than aspies, and I wonder if anyone else sees this as well.

But for the poll, I'm asking how you identify yourself - judgmental or not, and open-minded or not.

Obviously, this is not a scientific poll, lacking a control group and a double-blind protocol, but that does not stop me from being curious. Oh, and you can change your vote at any time.

Judgmental and closed-minded: You've up your mind and are unlikely to change it, despite any evidence that your opinion is invalid.

Judgmental and open-minded: You've made up your mind, and you might change your opinion if valid evidence is presented.

Tolerant and closed-minded: While you may change your mind, it will not be due to anyone else's efforts.

Tolerant and open-minded: You may change your mind, especially when presented with valid evidence that supports an opposing view.

Judgmental and open-minded. We all judge things, but we shouldn't be narrow-minded.

My wife would say I'm judgemental and close minded, while actually, I think I'm very open minded.

I've been called stubborn because I don't like change and anything I plan to do is set in stone. This has gotten me in trouble numerous times, but it seems that once my mind has made a decision I have to carry it out, come hell or high water.

I'm open-minded in terms of sexuality, housing, dating, movies, music, foods, etc. It seems like I'm close minded when it comes to others trying to change my mind about something, like living in my car or driving cross country.

Does being judgmental mean that you can't be tolerant?

Because whilst I know that we all judge first off, I reckon that I am also tolerant as well.

Like for instance...I'll judge someone first off because I think they are a right dickhead but then I'll be tolerant of their dickhead ways.

I like to see myself as open minded and tolerant. I like to be nice to everyone and welcome them.

Tolorent and close minded

It was judgemental and close minded but getting diagnosed and thus finding out I have characteristics that others and even myself would judge negativity turned that around. My black and white thinking means I do view things as correct and not correct. Aging often means the world has passed me by and thus not understing the change means denial of the change sometimes.

I used to be the opposite (judgmental and close-minded), even after diagnosis.
However...
In order for me to fulfill my desires of learning about the world, I have to be tolerant and open-minded.

And so I did, by averting my old black and white mentality. (One of the common aspie traits I averted so far)
And I'm now.

I'm in the majority of judgemental and open minded. I judge quickly, but adapt with new info. I'm aware I can have a narrow view, and try to adjust accordingly.

Although many claim I am judgemental and close minded, I don't see myself that way at all.

PS people think I am close minded because I speak the truth as I know it, not because I really am

judgmental and open-minded. I have strong opinions based on fact. I am open to new information and will change my opinion if the facts support changing my opinion. I have a hard time tolerating people who "haven't seen the light" meaning they don't see the world the way I do. I don't try to force my views on others but tend to look down on people who I consider ignorant. To me life is all about learning and trying to be right. Of course, not everyone is obsessed with facts like I am, so they would probably judge me as being too bound by rules, too inflexible, and not open-minded enough. Oh well, I am who I am, and the world needs people like me who are idealistic and not easily swayed by social convention. How else would needed change happen in society and within organizations?

I would ideally like to say - Tolerant and open-minded: You may change your mind, especially when presented with valid evidence that supports an opposing view.
It's a conundrum though, as I thought of myself this way until recently when someone told me I think "in black and white terms," which I never considered, but due to them bringing that to my attention, I have indeed changed my views and opened to new ways of thinking I had previously discounted, which in turn proves that I wasn't closed minded to begin with.
So probably - Judgmental and open-minded: You've made up your mind, and you might change your opinion if valid evidence is presented.
I have my opinions as anyone does. I'd hazard to say it's impossible not to have opinions and beliefs at all.
Plus - people often use "closed minded" as a way to push their position on you instead. In highschool a whole bunch of people tried to push me into doing acid, and when I refused as I didn't think this was a good idea, they accused me of being "closed minded." Being "open minded" thus may not have been a good thing if it had led to me doing acid at 14.

Wait, NTs are more tolerant than we are? In which way are you thinking of when you say ''tolerant''? Because in a lot of threads here people have mentioned that NTs are typically intolerant of anyone that's different to their social standards. And especially judgmental. I don't understand what you mean by ''NTs are less judgmental than Aspies''. Please elaborate where you got this from.
