Very sad news. For some reason I had him on my mind a lot the last 6 months or so.

It's extremely sad. One of my favorite bands. Will greatly affect me like Kurt Cobain of Nirvana (biggest shocker) who was my utmost favorite and Mike Starr of Alice In Chains. Such great talent lost because of drugs. They could have had everything and now they have nothing.

Guns and Roses is supposed to announce that they are getting back together soon.

I loved many of their songs, but this is my favorite.

I saw this yesterday morning when I got online. I listened to my Stone Temple Pilot albums all day. R.I.P. Scott.

This is my favorite of theirs.

What? How do I not know this? That's horrible! I've been listening to the radio all day and heard no mention.

I will listen to some 'Core' in his honour.

I was shocked when I found out a day late, and oddly I took it even harder the following day when it really sank in.

This is one of my all time favorite songs of not just STP but of anyone:

Scott Weiland's Family: 'Don't Glorify This Tragedy'

ASPartOfMe --

Speaking for myself, I DO NOT "glorify" Scott Weiland or his death.

Although I didn't take the opportunity in my above post to express anything deeper than just sadness, I do have deeper opinions and they consist of the fact that I personally have NO delusions whatsoever about the flaws of Weiland.

HE WAS a deeply flawed, fcked up, messed up person who had messed up marriages and wasn't a good enough father.

I have zero problem being aware of that.

I also feel the same way about John Lennon. He was a horrible person but people make him out to be a saint. He wasn't.

However, what I do is I can still separate the reality of that from the fact that it's still sad to ME that someone who happened to have a hand in making some of the music I love has gone forever.

I'll allowed to be sad about that, because there will be no more of that particular person's gifts. I'm allowed to be sad also that another human being has wasted the rest of his potential life by buying the farm at a stupidly early age, due to his own bad lifestyle choices.

One can be sad about that without condoning it and certainly without glorifying it.

Also important to point out, in the interests of balance.....Mary herself (Scott's ex wife who penned the article you link) was a junkie too. Like Scott she had addictions and was bi-polar. Mary was as unstable, unpredictable and nuts as Scott was.

But now she gets to be holier than thou about him while painting herself as the good guy now that he can't counterbalance her remarks.

They were BOTH a mess in that marriage.

About time.

I'm sorry to people who take that as being insensitive, but, it's seriously about time. He's had it rough with drugs and alcohol for years.. I'm shocked he didn't OD even 15 years sooner. :|

I mean, he will be missed, and I enjoyed his music a lot.

886, yes, he's been abusing substances for so long that it's more surprising this didn't happen long ago rather than now.

But I think a lot of people also hoped against hope that -- as in many other well known cases -- he just might overcome his crap and get to be one of the aging survivors. There are others who managed to live through years of what everyone thought would kill them. It's hit and miss who dies young anyway and who actually manages to pull through, clean up, and wind up being 70 year old grandfathers.

Also, even though I get what you mean, "about time" is an unkind choice of words for anyone's death, where "not surprised" might have been more the intention.

Wholeheartedly agree with this post.

This was my favorite STP song.

Damn, can't believe it's been a month. STP (and Velvet Revolver to a degree) were a big part of my music taste developments.

(beautiful song that wasn't a single)
