But I do enjoy some of the Christmas food traditions. I plan to have a little celebration on my own on Desember 22 instead, which is the shortest day of the year (Winter solstice). I'm celebrating that the days will slowly get longer (and with time warmer) for every day that passes

Modern Christmas was created by Coca Cola as a marketing stunt in the early 1900s

Santa's red and white outfit is the branding colors for coke.

SO I'll raise a fizzy glass of soda to Santa this Christmas and to all the ignorant people who think there is some spiritual or cultural relevance to all this nonsense...

When I was a kid I loved spending Christmas with my family. Since then I've spend a couple of rare Christmases with friends. But other then that, Christmas is just another day for me now, and I'm OK with that. I have absolutely zero Christmas shopping to do. Which is a big plus.

I have decided - for the first time - to skip Christmas entirely this year. It's something I've been wanting to do for years, and since I've now broken off contact with my parents, I finally get to celebrate Christmas the way I want... which is "not at all".

I think I'll find a cafe with a good view, so I can sit and watch other people go mad from stress due to Christmas shopping while I relax with a good book and an even better espresso.

Yo, but I will be forced by my family every year to celebrate what I now just consider to be the winter festival, since no one talks about Santa Claus or Jesus anymore and it's just a time for gift giving and being around family. I'd personally like to ax the gift giving part now that all my siblings and I are adults, I see little point for it plus money is scarce right now with college and all.

So yeah I guess I will be celebrating Christmas, although I'll deny it to the end!

I'm with you. I have fond memories of this time of year, somewhat warm memories. But that was when I was young; I hate to label myself, but I guess I'm an athiest. I'm also politically on the left and against some of the social factors of Christmas, corporate greed, and the way people suck it up as an excuse to participate in various things. I wont go into detail, but I think there are a lot of people who don't celebrate this holiday for many reasons.

The only reason there is a 'festival' is because pagans had a winter festival, and then christians over-took it as a coercion method, by making it so the christian celebration coincided with it, some Christians even thing celebrating it is wrong due to the underlying pagan themes/traditions associated with Christmas. Anyways point with that is it was initially a winter festival before the christian holiday.

I don't particularly celebrate anything, sometimes I might try and get gifts for a couple people and am certainly open to getting together with people around that time but yeah nothing specific.

I am aware. Don't tell that to the majority of European Christians out there that are clueless, it'll break their hearts that they're still all technically pagan polytheists with their many gods I mean saints and angels, and borrowed holidays.

Another two years and I'll be on my own, probably somewhere far away from my home state so I wont have to worry about celebrating anything at that point. If I ever become a parent later on in life maybe I'll teach my children to observe the solstices, equinoxes, or other Celtic/Germanic ancient pagan holidays. That's a big if though on actually having children so who knows.

Great idea, also the Summer solstice. The holidays were never celebrated in my family. No tradition to follow.

I actually considered doing volunteer work over the Christmas holidays (11 days in my case), since I won't be having any plans of my own.

... but it turns out that almost all volunteer positions in my area involve a lot of socializing... an activity I tend to avoid like the plague...

Actually it is already a tradition in Norway to celebrate Summer solstice. Usually by fireing up big fires along the coast late in the evening. But since it means that from this date on the days will slowly become shorter (and in time colder) I tend to feel a little depressed about it.

No but I wish I didn't. It might as well not even exist sometimes. I tend to get even more depressed during the holidays. It's lost the magic in it ever since my grandma died and it's even worse now because I don't want any more "stuff". I just want to go somewhere and be doing things making enough money to buy my mom gifts comfortably. I have some money would have liked to have enough to save. I really want a job before Christmas more than anything but it's clear that ain't going to happen.

Yes coke dissolves copper objects in fairly quick time (if youtube videos are to be believed) and does awful things to people's teeth!!
anyway Santa probably sticks to eggnog....

I don't like celebrating Christmas anymore, I used to love Christmas as a child, it was my fave holiday. Now, I don't want to decorate Christmas trees & go to see my family for Christmas. They spend 6-8 hours celebrating, is that normal? I always get bored when I'm at my grandmother's house. Now that I'm in my 40s, I don't do things like I did before. I wish I can move far far away so I can't come back for the holidays.
