Hi everyone. I'm Nox, and I was recently (well, I guess not quite so recently anymore, since it was August, but recently in the grand scheme of things) with autism (seeing as aspergers is no longer a diagnostic category in the US) as well as adhd.
Funnily enough, while going through the diagnostic process we found out that my dad is also autistic and adhd, though he hasn't gotten a formal diagnosis, he shares so many traits with me that it's scary!
Getting diagnosed at 19 is a little weird after struggling in silence for so long, but I'm glad I finally did get diagnosed. I'm still figuring things out, but it's helped me be a lot kinder to myself when I'm struggling with the issues caused by these conditions. And it also got me access to disability services at my university, which has been tremendously helpful now that I'm getting accommodations for the first time!
Anyway, I look forward to meeting you all!
Welcome Nox and hope your journey is wonderful.
You have the advantage of age, whereas I was diagnosed in March of this year at the age of 55. My most confusing issue is communication and making friend on and off line. I still have not worked that one out.
The good side of being Aspie is that we make wonderful friends to the people who are willing to put the effort in to get to know us. We are genuine, loyal, caring, eye for detail, fun to be with and so much more, so my friend look at the good side of ASD and enjoy life. Teach me how to communicate.
