I was trying to think of current ones but no biggie, I'll take your word for it.

I guess Hilary Benn would possibly qualify. Not sure if you've heard of him.

I've always thought of politics as an exclusive club for the rich and powerful.

They use their power and money to select lackey's who they believe will gain them
more power and money. It seems to have worked quite well as the rich and powerful
continue to become MORE rich and powerful every day, as the freedoms and income
of the ordinary/average man continue to drop, as "our" government holds us in place,
while allowing the rich and powerful to strengthen their hold on us.

I agree ZenDen, and I think those that would qualify for inclusion here are few and far between.

They would need to be honest, logical and altruistic rather than the far more common lying, hyperbolic and egocentric individuals.

I think people can recognise these traits even if they don't agree with the position held by the politician.

California Assembly Speaker Toni G. Atkins.

From wiki:

"She was born in poverty in Wythe County in southwest Virginia. Her father was a miner and her mother a seamstress; she grew up in a home with no running water.[1] She earned a BA in political science from Emory and Henry College, focusing on community organizing. She later attended the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Atkins relocated to San Diego in 1985."

From me:
She got her start in politics in San Diego when she was asked to join a few committees & then served as interim mayor when a scandal caused the mayor to step down. From there she won a seat on the city council, and eventually became a state legislator.

I've yet to see her sell out her values & she's a nice person.

Seems like a nice person.

This is strange (a bill she sponsored):

"AB-69 details the terms which can no longer as stated in the law be used to “create a hostile work environment.” As codified in the law, the terms “supervisor, manager, overseer, team leader, leader, producer, director, controller, chair, boss, captain, head person, head honcho, authority, chief, chairperson, chairman, partner, inspector or any other term that may create a perception of inequity that an employee may perceive as harmful to their employment individuality.” Speaker Atkins stated, “This legislation in coordination with our recent law regarding bullying in the workplace will successfully create a harmonious environment for our residents which will enhance their life experience.”

And I suspect living and legislating in San Diego means her constituents (legal and illegal) effect her stance on certain projects intended to improve the life of illegal immigrants. I don't agree with this, being of the opinion we should take care of our damaged and homeless vets (and our other citizens) before we spend a penny on people from foreign countries trying to suck the teat of the United States. She calls the illegal Mexicans "undocumented" to show how they've managed to exploit a loophole in our laws that people like your senator like to hold open for them. These "back door" efforts are designed to benefit the rich and keep workers "illegal."

But, to get back to the subject, in my earlier post, I was talking about the people of wealth and power, and not the underlings that work for them. It appears Atkins steers her own ship. Do you think she will become our Governor?

England's Tony Ben liked a good argument, and thought quite logically, i think he smoked a pipe too which was adorable.

Elizabeth Warren
Tammy Duckworth
Sherrod Brown
Raul Grijalva
Keith Elison
Jan Schakowsky
John Lewis
Elijah Cummings and
Bernie Sanders.

And there are more.

In reality there are plenty of people who are working to help ordinary working class people. Not all politicians are in it simply for their own selfish purposes.

The actual AB-69 for this session concerned the use of body cameras, was submitted by Rodriguez and chaptered (signed into law) in October; the one you cited was satire, I think the author chose the number either randomly or as a thinly veiled reference to their opinion of Atkins.
Actual AB-69:
http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=201520160AB69
Journalist's clarification that it was satire:
http://townhall.com/columnists/brucebialosky/2015/08/02/new-california-law--no-bosses-n2032476/page/full

And while you may disagree with her political views, that isn't the same as her being "an ass" as the topic stated. She's actually pretty fair and level as far as I know of how she treats people and keeps her word. As far as I know she isn't running for governor. Kamala Harris or Gavin Newsom probably have a lock on the Dem side of that race for 2018. They also seem much more...ambitious than Toni, yet another reason she's not an ass!

The correct response should be crickets chirping on this thread.

Seriously even "the good ones" are in it for self serving reasons ultimately, and are capable of making HIDEOUS mistakes that make things turn out far worse for the future.

Left, right, trust NO one. They're ALL asses.
