I don't know what section to put this is, so sorry if it's wrong. My dad eats out a lot, and I usually go with him and his significant other. But it feels awkward because I never see anyone else my age eating with their parents. Do most people my age just choose not to go when their parents go eat, or what?

If your dad's paying your tab, and he goes to decent restaurants - Don't worry about it!

I'm 55 tomorrow, and my mother still takes me out to lunch!

And criticizes my table manners, too!

I don't feel embarrassed at all--though I'm irritated when my mother nags!

What's weird is that I'm 14 and my mom still makes me order from the kids menu.

I eat out with my mom about once a week and I'm 41. I see absolutely nothing with it, we enjoy the food and our time together, and if other people do that's their problem. I know young NT people generally think even acknowledging their parent's existence is worse than death, if they think at all. It's part of their desire for more independence. And by more independence I mean them doing whatever all the other kids are doing.

I was 20/21 when my father would take me to quiet bars to play games such as pool & darts. Upon reflection, I feel it should have thoroughly embarrassed me because most guys at that age have their own friends to socialize with. I guess my father felt sorry for me.

However, I don't believe it's particularly odd to go to a restaurant with your parents at the age of 19. If you fall into the deadly trap of caring what strangers think of you, they could easily surmise that the three of you are celebrating something of great importance, such as your graduation or marriage etc.

I'm 53, and one of the big highlights of visiting my dad, stepmom, and sis is eating out with them. Even though I'm not always excited with their choice of eateries, I realise as my 83 year old father pays for the meal, I shouldn't b!tch about it.
FWIW, my ADHD sister still lives with them in her late 40's, and probally goes with them every time they eat out.
Also happy birfday KK, and I hope you get to enjoy a nice dinner with whoever you like, and BTW Jake my father took me out to a bar on a military base when I turned 18 for my first "legal" drink back in the 1980's. No embarassment for me even though I was surrounded by a bunch of macho G.I.'s.
Finally, oh how I wish I could still order from the kids' menu!

No, it's super normal to go to restaurant with your parents no matter how old you are.

Going to a restaurant with your parents at any age is perfectly fine.
Grandparents too.

I'm 49 and still order from the kid's menu. I find the adult menu to usually have too much food. I prefer the portions and prices of the kid's menus so I frequent restaurants that let me order from them.

There is no age limit for enjoying meals out with parents. That is something you will hopefully enjoy as long as you are both alive.

I usually order from the seniors menu ... healthier food than the "hot dog and fries" typically found on the children's menu. Full size entrees are way too much food. If I'm dining with another adult, I'll split an entree (and then split a dessert!)

nothing wrong with that. this problem is common among young people ( especially guys) because they like to make fun of guys who go out with their parents.
people at that age like to brag and pretend they are not young anymore and they are independent, etc.
