Cancelled my cable TV so I don't feel bad about spending all the time in the yard and not using an expensive service!

Not only did I do a good job on a difficult phone call--I politely listened to their "final offer" and said "no," but I also returned the expensive cable box today.

DAMN! Took you this long to cancel. I cancelled my over 20 years ago and never look back.

I traded in cable TV for cable internet a long time ago, and have more and better TV channels now online via my Roku than I did with cable, and the best part is I no longer get any of those "junk" channels like home shopping and religion.


This service allows me to choose my stations alacarte which I couldn't do with cable or satellite. In addition I still have the rooftop aerial on my house for local affiliates as well as a BluRay player in case of an internet outage.

Right on! These days I barely ever watch TV anymore; 90% of the shows are junk!

The person I talked to when I disconnected my cable told me that there was no future in video-on-demand and streaming services. That was 15 to 20 years ago.

I would suggest updating your Roku by adding ChannelPear.
Go to https://channelpear.com/ and click on the Roku icon seen on their list of compatible devices.
CP lets you choose up to 50 worldwide live channels for free or you can upgrade to premium which has no limits. If you need help my username on their Media board is "strapshoechris".
Yes QVC is on their list of available streams as well as HSN and TSC, although I don't care to have any of those in my lineup, as I prefer brick-and-mortar shopping as much as possible.
I would also suggest adding FilmOn if you don't already have it (gives you AP news, BBC News, Voice of America, DVIDS a.k.a. Armed Forces TV, Pivot TV, and various African as well as Carribean channels in English).
Another Roku Channel called NewsOn gives you live access to most major US television market affiliates that offer newscasts in all four time zones. So does one called Livestream.
Finally a newer Roku Channel called Pluto TV sort of simulates basic cable TV service, but they're a bit limited on their offerings so far being a recent startup.
I would try to hook up your Roku using HDMI cable if you have a modern flatscreen TV such as mine are...

This depends on which Roku model you currantly have and the type of jack you have it plugged into on your TV.
If you're connected up with something like this:

then you likely have the Roku 1 (early) model which means you can't "upgrade" to one of the newer models unless your TV has a slot like the one the purple stick is plugged into in this pic:

I don't even have a TV licence, no point when Netflix, YouTube and Twitch offer so much entertainment for far less.

never could afford cable so I never had it. antenna atop tree gets me the basics, for the most part.

As a result of digital multicasting, I get around 60 over the air channels via my rooftop aerial when I scan my HDTV, although only about half of them have programming worth watching.

living at least 50 miles from the nearest transmission tower [no translators near me] I am lucky to get any over-the-air TV. I tried a regular rooftop antenna and got zilch.
